"Cruelly clever with some unforgettably gory set pieces, The Monkey reaffirms director Osgood Perkins' horror bona fides while revealing he also has a surprising -- albeit sick -- sense of humor."

So, I liked Magnus Archives quite a bit but nothing else seems to scratch that same itch (I have tried Old Gods of Appalachia & Nightvale and didn't get into them as much), tho currently listening to Malevolent and I am enjoying it so far. I liked Archive 81 too. Also tried a few anthology podcasts (Knifepoint, Pseudopod, NoSleep), I just generally prefer stuff that has an overarching story or some kind of throughline, with the same character(s).

If anyone has any horror (or even mystery) podcast reccs, especially recent ones, in any subgenre, please share :)

Great remakes? (lemmy.ca)

Sometimes a remake is done really well, on par or close to the orignal even. What's some of your favourites? Personally..

-The Crazies (2010)

-Dawn of the Dead (2004)

-Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

Feel free to point out terrible remakes if you like as well. Why not.

Personally, Last Shift (2014). It was a smaller budget movie that came out awhile back that not many seem to know about. One of the only movies that actually got under my skin in recent years showing budget isn't always everything. The director remade it recently with a bigger budget but you can skip the remake it's not as good. Any other recommendations?

Personally, I love horror comedy. I find a good one endlessly rewatchable. Cabin in the Woods, Return of the Living Dead, Tucker & Dale, Scream, frigging Killer Klowns from Outer Space! Definitely my favorite.

Otherwise I'm really into paranormal & zombie horror. I think that would make up my top three. Fast > slow zombies.

Just curious if anyone else here loves not so great, cheesy horror movies? I can't get enough lol. A bit of a guilty pleasure of mine and since it's a snowy and blowy Sunday I could use some ideas. To let you know what I'm thinking of think... Evil Toons (1992), Zombeavers (2014), Soriety Babes In The Slimeball Bowl-o-rama (1988).

What's your favorites?

We've really had a great couple of years for horror since covid and just had another strong year. Just wondering what everything's favorite films were from last year? The substance was impressive and even won an Oscar but personally my to three would be..

-Late Night With The Devil

-Strange Darling

-Smile 2
