Conservative

Due to some confusion, the /Conservative mod team have decided to clarify rule 2. The actions taken will remain the same, this is a rewrite to hopefully clarify what rule 2 is, and what /Conservative is.

Rule 2 is "posts must be right wing, and comments can be of any political leaning." This is to garner discussion, to bring to light stories and perspectives that may be absent in other communities. and to allow discussion on these stories and perspectives. Hopefully, that makes sense.

We're rewriting Rule 2 to read:

Posts must be made from an (American) right-wing perspective. This does not include comments, be as lefty as you want in the comments. If you feel it's unclear, please check Allside's Media Bias Chart and feel free to message the mods if you have any questions. We reserve the right to make judgment calls.

A little different post this time, not a news article or anything. Just some excellent points made here.

What can we expect? A lot of empty bullshit from both of them. Make your predictions here.

The purpose of lemm.ee/c/conservative is to discuss conservative politics. That’s why the posts need to be from or about American right-wing, preferably in a neutral or positive light, and you can be as lefty as you want in the comments. The mods really do want the community to talk about conservatives, their values, and related things.

This isn’t r/conservative, r/TheDonald, and especially not r/Politics. It’s not Reddit at all. It’s Lemmy. Here, we’re supposed to beyond the totalitarian moderation of Reddit, not focused on profit, and wanting to create a community of real people. Ideally, we didn’t move from Reddit to recreate it elsewhere. We moved to Lemmy for something better.

The mods, Takeaway and I, view our role as very limited. We take the conservative approach. We don’t want to pulverize the community with the heavy-handed control that defined Reddit moderation. Nor do we want to create a safe space for conservative views, where they go unchallenged. We want posters to assume good faith, to earnestly argue with each other, seek points of agreement, and, probably most important, explore points of disagreement. This goes beyond mere civility: it’s about treating each other with dignity, understanding that we’re not all just a bunch of ideologues, and that we have reasons behind our beliefs worth understanding. As long as these discussion are earnest, even if a bit emotional, it’s all good.

So, it’s disappointing when the mods were greeted with 22 reports, most from the same thread. It was as if some of you were trying to get each other banned, the mods being merely an instrument of your will to silence. That is not our job. How can we be conservative in moderation while some of you bait each other into abusive language and then report the responses? Are we here to recreate Reddit?

Consider this a general warning to not do that again, a request to be better members of the community, and a chance to provide your input as to how we should proceed. We want you to talk about conservatives and conservativism. So, how can we help you do that while taking a conservative approach to moderation?

There was a post here not too long ago about how we don't have enough things that politicians and political influencers do. So here, a trashy post.

I know I posted about this yesterday, but this article does a much better job than I can.

We don't even know where our tax money is going.

To my knowledge, the concept of "conservatism" is the will to conserve, preserve past values that are seen as superior. While I don't agree with this either, this community has almost exclusively posts about fearing new things and trying to show them as evil. Evil migrants, evil new generations, evil new sexualities, whatever.

I do not see any "values" in it, only fear. Rejecting migrants is not based on morals or values that are rational, but on fear. Same for the rest. Which leads to the question, what is the point of this community? It does not lead to debate, people calling it out as fascism on one side (which is quite justified as the root ideas are seemingly identical) and the other side just saying that it's wrong and that's it. There's no debate of values, as there are no values to debate about.

I do not agree with the concept of conservatism, and I couldn't care less if this place is forever doomed to be downvoted in oblivion. But if you actually want to do something else than fear-mongering, even if you insist on talking about conservatism, then maybe it would be a good idea to refocus the community on actual ideas, and not the typical far-right speeches of hatred and fear that already flood a lot of media.

Of course I believe that it would be better to reconsider opinions that basically encourage the worst of humanity; but even aside from that, there is more to do than to replace every possibility of a conversation with the (stereo)typical "immigrants bad, jesus good, gays evil" speech.

Yes, it says it's false. Here's the pertinent line:

Just a reminder that fact checkers blatantly lie, and will even tell you they're lying. It takes like two minutes to fact check laws like this.

You probably think America has been “a Christian nation,” or at least had a Christian society, and that God has blessed this country.
