Welcome to our virtual third place, The Café.

Come on in and make a new human connection over a cup of coffee (or Teh Tarik). This is a casual community, do whatever you want, share your oyen pics, your frustrations, and even organize a weekend picnic with the community. The world is your oyster.

Rules are simple, be kind and civil with each other. As with any other café, rude patrons will be kicked out.

Happy July! Sad to hear most 3rd party apps are already down. But, i had a lot of fun last two days? Well, even prior to that. Had my person over to meet the family and the cats. My anxious cat who's always anxious and scared of strangers warmed up to him and let my person pet his back. So cute 🥺🥺

Just found out that my dobi guy is from kelantan. He's a chinese so of course i asked him about all those burning questions.

From what i understood, chinese mostly mingle together and have their own community, where everything haram is available there (when the state allowed it).

Yes many chinese supported pas. Didnt ask why. Yet.

Yes the water sucks. The teh tarik free flow is true and not exxagerated.

Apparently most tauke in kelantan are chinese. He deacribed the situation like indonesia, where majority of wealth is hold by local chinese.

Apparently non kelantanese cannot have permanent land deed there. Cn only rent about 60+ years.

Apparently kelantanese cinese damn rich. Authority doesnt check their wealth. They keep lots of cash and use it to avoid tax. Even went as far as using cash only to buy and build houses. Not sure how that works because we will get targeted immediately if we add those properties under our name but that's what he said.

Would kepochi more but customer came.

hmm, sounds to me they just benefits from PAS, not in the development way but easier to line their pocket, or maybe they just like slower pace.

Few days ago, I watched this video on YouTube of people secretly learning their enthic language to suprise their parents. They would find tutors online. I'm thinking to myself. These people are lucky that their enthicity is common enough that there is a tutor online

I don't have that privilege. when I Google my enthic language. It's a fkin Wikipedia page and other pages of that nature. An archival piece

Not that I don't try. The few times I try with my parents. My mom is pretty receptive of it. My dad on the other hand...he made fun of me when I did it. I think he sees it like how a mexican guy speaks in perfect mexican but when it comes to certain words, they'll say it in perfect American accent. A Mishmash of perfect mexican with perfect American. That's how I sound like to him maybe. I hope that analogy make sense. Anyway, yeah that made me not wanting to learn it more and more.

Maybe it's like pandas, just let it die. Not worth saving just because they look cool. Too much hassle not enough utility.

Yeah, it's an ass move for making fun other's attempt at learning something, especially when they're still kids. I got made fun of from my cousin for speaking kinda terrible cantonese and english when i was a kid, that sour the deal so much i just quit learning both, all that just so i can communicate with him.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Sympathies from the loghat negeri failure mode gang. Pretty much why I stopped bothering to speak proper kelantanese.

Masing2 yang aku jumpa ni rupa2nya ada helah. Berpura2 baik sebab "nak tarik" aku "ke pangkal jalan" kononnya, pada masa yang sama dalam hati diorang benci aku sangat2. Dasar hati busuk perasan ahli syurga.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Serabut. Aku serabut. Mak aku punya putar belit cerita sampai bergaduh adik beradik laki bini ipai duai. Bapak aku pulak degil taknak pergi jumpa kaunselor. Kononnya semua masalah boleh selesai dengan sembahyang. Habih tu kalau dah selesai kenapa bapak aku masih cari aku untuk mengadu? Huh??

I cannot tahan siham. They freak me out both on the texture and taste.

That said, that's a generous looking packet. My daughters would LOVE it.

Lemmy instances can't fully show off Kbin-based communities (aka magazines) they've federated with, so just giving a shout to the Microblog section of MagASEAN (which you can subscribe from here though [email protected]) since the recent posts are full of makan posts: https://kbin.social/m/magASEAN/microblog

Popping in here cos today have a bit of work to do (as is always, work also means ~~reddit~~ monyet.cc). Bacon Reader and Apollo don't work anymore, so i think this will reduce my reddit habit outside of working hours.

good chance to try reddit detox, haha

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

At my grandma's house

Was lifting a few dozens of heavy plank woods

I almost fainted haha

I feel pity for those who have to do this kind of job almost every day

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (4 children)

is there anyone here who isn't/wasn't a regular reddit or fediverse user?

over the years, I have probably registered accounts on reddit to ask some questions (not on r/my as far as I remember), but never stayed for more than a month.

as for the fediverse, I remember registering a mastodon account during its early years to see what it was all about, but that too didn't last a month.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hahahaha this is my first time lepak in a Malaysian subreddit and previously also never been on Reddit much. OTOH been on Fedi since Nov 22 daily hahahhahaha (it helps I'm not on actual mastodon and I've never been on a mega big instance)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

nice, that means you most likely did not find this site from it being mentioned on reddit, so let me guess…was it through kbin?

at least, that's how I found it. due to the reddit protest saga giving an opportunity for more open platforms to be in the spotlight, I started looking for interesting communities on https://browse.feddit.de, but this site was not listed there yet.

I think I started hearing lemmy being mentioned around 2 years ago though I've never bothered to get (and keep) an account on it (like what happened to me with reddit and mastodon).

then as the reddit protests went on, I started hearing about kbin being another open source reddit alternative, and thought I'd try searching there, and I so happened to do that within a day or two of this site being created.

I posted on Reddit once in a while & stalk quite a few subreddits but wasn’t a “regular” user. I’ve been pretty active on Mastodon since the twitter-to-fediverse exodus though (before that I was mostly a lurker on Twitter). The fediverse has been a lot more fun than mainstream social media for me because of the smaller & more tight-knit communities.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

yeah, I guess the fediverse/threadiverse is attractive for people like us who have some reservations about mainstream social media.

now that twitter and reddit have caused a mass exodus of users from their platforms, I wonder if (and secretly hope) whatsapp (perhaps discord too?) could be next (it's becoming a pattern, haha, I try to avoid those 2 as well), so more users can move to other alternative open platforms.

I noticed recently a lot groups/pages popping up on FB (and being sponsored/recommende to me) that are essentially the type of things that Reddit has. Interesting, cute, funny pictures/articles/videos.

Maybe someone is capitalising on the collapse of reddit to convert people to fb over the last 2 weeks.

Opened up Apollo by habit. Sigh. RIP
