I am torn. Lemmy feels slimmer and easier to use with a wider variety of apps. Kbin has an advantage of being an "all-in-one" solution for the Fediverse with a better UI.

That said I use Mastodon for microblogging, so Kbin having that built in only clutters the site in my particular use case. While Kbin has a better UI it's also more drab in color and harder to navigate. Kbin also has this karma/points system which feels odd. It skews into the negative VERY easily and is displayed on your profile. I prefer Lemmy's upvote/downvote system but doesn't have a permanent karma/points system.

I've been reading Lemmy is growing much faster than Kbin, but then I hear that "it's all bots" and not real growth.

Where do you stand on this? Where do you think you'll find yourself when this all shakes out?

I agree this is odd and unintuitive. @ernest is aware of this issue: https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/80

It's probably related to the issue of how upvotes, downvotes and favourites are treated in kbin, lemmy and mastodon (and other fediverse apps). See https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/3

I'm using lemmy right now because it has a proper Android app, but I think I'll switch as soon as kbin gets their's up and running.

I like kbin's UI better, however Lemmy lets you click on a thumbnail to expand the picture inline, whereas on kbin clicking the thumbnail just opens the comments. So right now it's Lemmy, purely for usability

I like kbin UI a lot, found also some user styles and scripts to make it even better. For iOS I found a great app called Memmy, I wish there was something similar for kbin.

Desktop - Kbin. Android - Lemmy. Mobile apps for Lemmy instances are far more function than the mobile site for kbin.

Kbin all the way, also as de-federated community. That said, now that I'm getting the gist of selecting the instances and magazines I want, enjoying the federated content has also become easier.

Clicked a link for Lemmy a few weeks ago and backed away slowly. Later tried Kbin social and just set up an account. It was easy. It’s still new and feels awkward. There’s annoying things like scrolling for the comment box, going through profile for subscriptions and problems finding replies and comments on Lemmy, but change is never easy.

Kbin, the Lemmy interface is just a no-no for me.

I've not tried Kbin myself, but I've poked around it and the husband is on there so I've had a detailed tour. Initially picked Lemmy because I found the design of it in general to be more modern and pleasing, and seeing him use Kbin has definitely reinforced that choice for me.

Then I see threads with tons of people saying it's the exact other way round and Lemmy looks too old fashioned for them!

So I guess what I'm saying is we're all just clueless apes who have no idea what we're talking about and it's good there's an option for everyone 😆

I'll probably make a Kbin account at some point anyway though since that's the easier codebase for me to contribute to.

I think people can make logical points for and against each, but yeah it really just boils down to personal preference. I like Lemmy better myself, and most of the complaints I see about it will be smoothed out in due time.

Lemmy. Idk, I tried it first, enjoyed it. I made a kbin account to test it out too and found a few features I preferred less there. I also remember the name lemmy easier than kbin.

i found and tried out kbin first but it was still very small. i saw lots of activity on lemmy.world so i joined here. at first i was very confused and trying to use mastodon to access lemmy/kbin content which, while it technically works, makes following threads really confusing. so yeah, lemmy is where i access everything from but i'm following lots of kbin magazines here too
