It would be more reasonable to say that people with depression, bad enough to need treatment, have worse cognitive decline.

There has been really suggestive research lately that many mental disorders, including depression, are related to poor metabolism.

It would make sense that if someone is already exhibiting one brain based metabolic issue they would be more likely to suffer from a second one.
