!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

During the Reddit migration, I made 2 accounts for myself. This account for research and one for actually being active on lemmy. My other account was on dataterm.digital and I really liked it there! But now it's gone. Does anyone know what became of them? Apparently they had/have Mastadon, but I've never used it before and can't seem to find it. I'd just really like to know if it's coming back, or if it's down for good and I need another account because I can't keep walking around here like this.

This is their meta site: https://obeythesystem.com/ It doesn't seem to list it. Neither does their network status page: https://biomonitor.cyberwa.re/status/network

I don't know anything, but that seems to imply to me that it's probably not coming back.

This is all second-hand knowledge (I'm not involved with nor personally know anyone involved) but I also had an account on dataterm.digital so I at least saw part of it. One thing I saw was the admin made a post on the local community saying he would be de-federating from one of the NSFW instances because dataterm.digital was hosted in Germany and he wasn't sure of the legality of the content under German laws. Seems like a perfectly fair thing to do in my opinion. But, for whatever reason, a bunch of people from totally unrelated instances started flooding that post with horrible content that he had to moderate away. I don't know why someone unrelated to dataterm.digital or that NSFW instance would have any stake in the issue, but there were a bunch of toxic comments.

I don't think this was the worst thing that happened to the instance, but I do believe it was the last straw. The admin was so irritated by the whole thing that he just outright deleted the entire dataterm.digital VM without any warning and is basically done with Lemmy now. I personally don't blame him in any way, but I would've at least liked a heads-up that he was doing this. I only know about it because I found his mastodon post shortly after he deleted the VM.

The people behind dataterm.digital also run the mastodon instance corteximplant.com and a couple other fediverse applications like pixelfed and misskey, but I don't think they're coming back to Lemmy.

Damn I remember the post about defederating from some instances due to German law, but I never really went to the comments because everything they said was pretty understandable. I don't blame them either for the decision, but like you said I wish there would have been a little heads up. At least I now have some idea of what happened and where to find that community again. Thanks for the info!

I haven’t heard of it but it’s always sad when an instance goes down. The same happened to vlemmy, it just went down without any explanation or warning. Maybe the admin didn’t have the time or resources to keep it running.

Oh, right, this is the fediverse. (This is a Lemmy comment, FYI.)

@[email protected], whatever happened to dataterm.digital? Is it ever coming back?

God, I was starting to think it was a fever dream, that was my first instance, then suddenly it was gone. I still check every now and then if it's back up. After a while, I assumed it wasn't coming back and made my new home, but it still holds a special place for me.

Exactly! I kept trying to log in just to see if it was a temporary outage, but well it wasn't to be. It's at least good to know I wasn't alone. Out of everything on Lemmy I really liked the vibe there, but if it's down for good I guess it's time to move on.
