It seems solar and batteries are much better ideas at grid level.

Seems like the government has 0 interest in building out the grid to accommodate it.

I'd love to but a) I'm not super excited about a big pile of lithium ion batteries in my house, can I get something else? b) EXPENSIVE - I've seen quotes for like $1000/kWh and you have to buy in like 7 or 12 kWh at a time. This was a couple years ago, I don't know that much has changed.

the newer chemistries like lithium iron phosphate are much more stable and not prone to thermal runway apparently. They are not as energy dense as lithium ion but that doesn't matter so much for a non-mobile application.
