My ancestors were on the wrong side, but I did have an ancestor lose his land and home because he executed a slave, but it turned out he messed the paperwork up and really killed a free man. The land was ultimately awarded to the free man's family
Fire Memes for Traitor Haters
Where we meme (joking in tone and detail, serious in sentiment) about General Sherman, the Civil War, and how the secesh traitors had it coming.
RULES

No bigotry. The Union, or at least the part of the Union WE support, fought AGAINST that shite. We are anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, anti-transphobic, and in general anti-bigot here, even if not all the lads in Union blue uniforms were.
-
No Confederate sympathizing. Anti-democratic racist slaver traitors don't deserve shit.

Follow all Lemmy.world rules
That's actually a really fascinating bit of family history!
Thing is is that the guy didn't even go to prison. He ended up moving a few states away and died of consumption. He died alone, poor, and obscure. First example I've seen of someone getting cancelled lol
Fourth Fassbender who doesn't care about secession but wants to fuck up the racist clowns anyway.
Perfection.
I was born and raised in Texas, fuck the Confederacy. All the dumbass descendants of the horrible people that were in charge back in the day made my life miserable.
The only side of my family who was in the country at the time were Quaker, so probably didnโt have anything to do with the war. Could be worth looking into, though.
