@[email protected] Recall is the reason why I let Windows down two months ago, a move I'm happy with.

Everything about privacy (the confidentiality pillar of security) -- but not restricted to infosec. Offline privacy is also relevant here.
@[email protected] literally why??? Casual users usually don't even know how to access the optional features menu. Just seems like pointless bad PR
This is the best Windows feature yet. My parents agreed to try out Linux for the first time because of it. Thank you Microsoft <3
@[email protected] .....this basically signs a death sentence for Windows in government or health environments. This...there's no way this is going to stand - the same three-letters are going to lean hard on MS to get it off.

@[email protected] So, if it's part of CoPilot; would uninstalling CoPilot remove everything, including recall?
People have been complaining about Microsoft (and their products) for over 20 years.... If you still use their products, then it's not Microsoft who's the problem.
@[email protected] This is when you switch to Linux. If anyone reading this doesn't know what distro to use, go to distrochooser.de
@[email protected] ... I have one PC loaded with 11 as a sort of testbed device.
After reading about this last night, I ordered new SSD's and it will absolutely have a fresh Linux install by the weekend.
@[email protected] Appearently it is unclear whether it will be non removable in the EU. I found an article in German.
This is a security desaster...

@[email protected] reading this is making me mad, cos now I have to learn how to unix.
The "right, that does it" point is reached
@[email protected] Epic Fail right there. I might install Linux Mint instead of paying for Windows 11.
@[email protected] can one of you IT managers or related explain to me whether Recall is baked in #Windows11 per se, or whether it is dependent only on #Copilot+ being enabled? I am confused by this from @theverge "Security researchers initially found that the #Recall database wasn’t encrypted. #Microsoft is now making the AI-powered feature an opt-in experience instead of on by default, encrypting the database, and authenticating through Windows Hello." https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/2/24233992/microsoft-recall-windows-11-uninstall-feature-bug
I have Linux Mint for about 15 years and I'm very very happy with it !!!
but you may prefer Windows !
@[email protected] I haven’t had a windows pc in 20 years, but I have an Xbox. I do these daily searches & things for rewards points, often in bing or edge, & I really despise it every time. It’s always broken or failing in some way & it’s a benign, nothing of a task. I would die a slow painful death if I had to do anything like work or business on this OS!
@[email protected] I'm just presuming Winaero Tweaker will have a way to cripple it. I need to give that crew some money.
This guy will probably include a Recall remover sooner or later. Winaero Tweaker so far does not seem to have one, but probably will too.
I'm just freezing my Windows partitions at Win 10 Pro and not letting them 11 themselves.
The problem is getting businesses off of Windows.
Treadmill inertia is hard to stop.
@[email protected] This is kind of deceptive language, no? It can be disabled. That's functionally equivalent?
@[email protected] I feel this is something that should be on the news for those who arn't technical and on all there social media in the true dystopian light it deserves.
@[email protected] no one should be moving to the new Windows OS. It is essentially the US government and mass surveillance. Linux is not that hard anymore.
@[email protected] SCHOOL DISTRICTS are now forcing their employees to work on pcs reimaged with Windows 11 for 'security'. Surely the idiot Superintendents were smitten by the sales pitch and shiny objects shown in return for selling everyone's privacy.
@[email protected] Well, many people will just say that they have nothing to hide.....
Totally ignorant of everything they do hide.
@[email protected] I'm using W10 Pro on the netbook and mini desktop and already that one has become a full job to keep it tamed.
It was removing all the unwanted gaming crap, the advertising s***, the 'ET phone home', the 'You should backup in OneDrive', etc, etc...
It is that some software I need doesn't have an alternative on Ubuntu, sigh!
@[email protected] I don't really use windows at all but I understand that if you want to run certain games with anticheat then you have no choice. It would be better to tell people how to hobble it.
