Not to make excuses, but -- maybe James is his middle name. My grandpa went by his middle name amongst the people that were close to him; the only people that called him by his first name were either strangers, or his boss at work.
So I was super curious if this was a misprint or something else. Nope. According to the Seattle Star, on July 31, 1905, this is the comic they ran on the front page.
Also in my research, I found that the comic was called Chapters from the Career of Mr. Everett True until sometime between September 1905 and October 1905 when it became The Outbursts of Everett True. I have yet to pinpoint the exact date it changed.
I wish I had discovered these comics earlier, they are timeless
