De manier waarop er in Limburg wordt omgegaan met de korenwolf kan leiden tot fikse boetes van de Europese Commissie, zo waarschuwt natuurrechtdeskundige Sander Kole van de Open Universiteit.

De provincie Limburg wil kijken of het fokprogramma van de korenwolf nog wel "haalbaar en betaalbaar" is. Volgens Kole verslechteren dit soort acties de toch al beschadigde reputatie van Nederland in Europa.
