Hello, i am interested in studying in Denmark for my MSc Degree in Computer Science and i wanted to know basically what the title says and if you guys have any recommended universities to apply to for CS (and if they are hard to get accepted?). I am a EU student (Greek) btw. How can i get this SU and will it help cover most expenses or will i need to get a part-time job (which i am completely fine) or a student loan. My BSc is in Aerospace Science and Technology just for some extra information.

Thanks in advance.

You likely won’t get accepted with such as bachelor’s, unless it happens to contain a ton of actual computer science courses. In Denmark, university bachelors are highly specialised from the beginning, which also means the requirements for master’s are specialised - at least within natural science and at University of Copenhagen in particular.

I mean I wouldn't say it contains tons of cs courses, but I would say it contains more than the majority of the Science family tree (Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering). Like I would say a good 35-40% of our courses are CS courses plus another bunch related to CS.

Have you done any research of your own and checked requirements of admission to the MSc in computer science before coming here and posting?

You would have found that University of Copenhagen requires 60 ects worth of computer science courses, and with specifics of what topics must be covered with an ects threshold too.

Other universities have different requirements.

Thank you actually I didn't know it works like that. I just checked and I should cover the requirements (70 CS points). One more question if you don't mind, does my thesis (which is CS based) count for ects points that the Universities require? (I still cover the points required with courses but would like to know in case other Universities have higher ects points requirement)

Thesis in general wouldn’t be applied to cover the requirements for a master’s in natural science at University of Copenhagen. Unless they changed the guidelines in the previous years, but UCPH is pretty conservative like that.

I want to underline it is not something against foreign educations. A master’s in physics or math at UCPH doesn’t give you access to study the master’s in CS either, unless you fulfill the requirements, which you can by elective courses on those programs, but it’s not a given.

It does also say on the page that even if you don’t fulfill the requirements, you can get accepted anyway because they also make judgment calls. A thesis in a CS based topic could perhaps count towards that.

You will need some employment to supplement the SU. Denmark is expensive

That problem kind of fixes itself, as you must be employed to be eligible for SU.

Will you use your education in Denmark?

I mean of course if I get accepted

The reason I am asking is because we have had our fair share of people coming in, getting an education and SU, then fucking right back home the instant they have to pay back an SU loan and the State never getting the money back unless they were to find said people in their homeland with a lawyer and police knocking on their door.

I mean I care about getting a good education and I wouldn't do that either way from a moral standpoint.

Free for EU students.

SU can be obtained if you fulfil certain requirements.

Whether (and how much) you'll need to borrow or work in addition to SU depends how much you have to pay in rent, and how you are with money. Most do work (or borrow) at least a little.

He'll have to work either way, as he will need to work to be eligible for SU

As far as I remember you will not have to pay to study your masters in Denmark as an EU student (don't quote me on it though). As for SU you are not eligible to access it as an EU student unless you fulfil certain criteria found here:

You need a part-time job on atleast 8 hours every week to be eligible for SU. Otherwise you won’t be able to get it.

Is it easy to find a part-time job there if I only speak English?

Depends on which university you get into. It might be easier in Copenhagen compared to other cities - have heard some jobs are looking specifically for foreign students to help them.

Do the universities provide some assistance in finding a job?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

I don’t really know, but they usually have a jobbank, where you can see current listings.

Nope, that's not their job. But there may be student networks that can help you.

With an MSc in CS - if you know how to code, it should not be too hard to find a job despite speaking only English. Especially if you are willing to live in one of the 4 larger DK cities

Hit me up in 1,5 year before Christmas- that is when all the graduate positions are open and searching

You mean months right?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Grovbolle at 2024-02-04 07:36:05+00:00 ID: kounoks

No. In 1 and a half year you should be starting 3rd semester. Right before Christmas if when many companies are accepting applications for graduate positions starting September the year after. So you finish your masters before summer, have a long vacation and then start your career
