Over the years I've been discovering rock bands which I really digged and found out that they are from Denmark.

It started with Mew, then I got into VETO, Turboweekend, Spleen United, Dúné, The Floor Is Made Of Lava, Reptile Youth, When Saints Go Machine, Carpark North and few others.

I love this scene and it has always amazed me that most of these bands I enjoyed so much are from Denmark.

I even made a separate Spotify playlist for this, although it doesn't limit only to Danish bands.

Most releases from 2000s up to mid 2010s are so good, it makes me even think it was some sort of golden age of this type of music, but lately it feels like it fell off. Last VETO album is from 2018 and it was not it. And most other bands stopped releasing anything at all, with very few exceptions.

So, I was hoping to find some Danes who are familiar with the subject and could give me some recommendations about artists which I missed, or, perhaps, new artists?

At this point, even Spotify's "song radio" feature doesn't give me many new results, so I'm a bit desperate :(

Also, funny enough, there was a similar thread (except for the part about falling off) from 9 years ago in this sub. I wonder if there was new good stuff release in past decade, since that thread.

P.S. - I'm also into Kashmir, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and some other Danish bands, but, in my opinion, they lie in a bit different genre. They are more of a traditional alternative rock and Dizzy Mizz Lizzy even has some prog to it.

TL;DR: Can someone please recommend me new artists similar to VETO, Carpark North, Turboweekend, Mew, Dúné, Spleen United, The Floor Is Made Of Lava, Reptile Youth, When Saints go Machine, WhoMadeWho, Ginger Ninja, etc

I'm familiar with Blaue Blume (such unique vocal, they are incredible), I Got You On Tape (spiritual brothers of Band of Horses, Somersault is amazing) and Trentemøller (although it's in my electronic section of my playlists).

I'll definitely check the others, thank you!

I actually have some of the songs liked from Lowly and The William Blakes.

I remember "Lowly - baglaens" very well. Such a beautiful song.

VOLA. Although it is a bit heavier, I think this'll be right up your alley.

As a shameless plug, I also have ONLY HUMAN which you might be interested in:

Sorry haha. Had to. I think you'll like it though!

Farven Fornem was good as well, albeit a bit too late to the party. Most people had moved on from the genre at that point and they only released one LP. But I enjoyed them a lot

Iceage is a must listen if you’re into the punkier soundscape. One of the most talented bands we have right now imo!

I get your point, but there are still some bands which release new stuff in those genres. You can find nice new releases in post-rock, midwest emo, math-rock and other kind of stuff.

14 comments and nobody has mentioned Moi Caprice??? Come on.

To answer your question. I don't know, but I think a lot of those bands were promoted by one radio station, and specifically one program. I think radio lost relevance and so did this scene. 🤷‍♂️ But that's just s theory. A music theory.

Granted, they might also be less rock than the other bands you mentioned, but I feel they were a huge part of the same "movement".

Was talking to my wife about this yesterday,  how random. That genre had a crazy period back then, but has mostly died out. The torch was passed on to Australia/New Zealand.

Was fun to be a part of though. I had a week where I heard Spleen United, Turbo weekend and Veto live. For Veto, the crowd was so wild and the room so hot, we felt drops falling from the roof. Everyone after the concert were standing outside in -5 degress to cool off, steaming. Good times.

Yeah, golden era of that genre is over. Now it's different stuff. New danish bands on my rotation are Fabräk and Afskum.

You should definitely check out Kellermensch! They are one my favorite bands these days and a phenomemal live act too.

Also The Rumour Said Fire. Their first two albums.

Sleep Party People.

Thank you, this is great!

I actually have some Kellermensch and The Rumour Said Fire in my Alt Rock playlist, but it got so big (about 2307 songs, 165+ hours), that it's easy to miss some gems in it now as well. I remember their songs I liked before and added.

The Rumour Said Fire sounds a bit different, it's more folkish. And reminds me of R.E.M. for some reason, but it's still great!

I'll check Sleep Party People out.

I think as far as Indie is concerned, you've hit a golden era right there.

I don't follow the scene as much now as I did then, but currently 'Guldimund', whom others have mentioned, is worth checking out. Also 'Tårn'.

From that golden era, I've also enjoyed:

Choir of Young Believers (album: this is for the white in your eyes), The Seven Mile Journey (Post-rock genre), Liserstille, Entakt, The Late Parade

Figurines were pioneers. Not super electronic, but defiantly down the same ally.

Of what hasn't been mentioned, also check Lust for Youth (Oh No Onos leadsinger and some Swede) and Palace Winter (current band)

An electronic duo/artist i really enjoy is "Rangleklods". Especially their/his earlier work.  They used to be a duo, but now its just one guy as far as i understand. Therefore the whole "them/him"-thing. Some of his newer work is also okay, but definitely check out the first albums/EPs.

He was originally just one guy, then she joined only to bounce later. Great stuff though, heard them in Lille Vega.

Love the fact that half the recommendations in this thread are from the late 00's/early 10's, kinda proving OPs point. The music scene just changed - poppy electronic stuff is in, late 00's indie rock is out. I'll throw Cody into the mix, they made some great records.

Newer Danish singer-songwritery stuff that made it to my lists: Rasmus Matthiesen, Marc Facchini, Peter Sommer (check the acoustic PSPHPT album), Nikolai Nørlund, De Efterladte. Or you could just go back and listen to CV Jørgensen.

WOW GOD..!! you took me down memory lane.

Born in ‘89 with 2 older siblings who definitely influenced me. But when I really started to listen to music it was because of those bands. Though it was Kashmir with Zitilites, that really hit my young little heart of music. Glad you managed to mention them in the end💜

As I remember back then, people argued that because of the insane AQUA and barbie girl era, people reeeally needed something… different! And everything had to be in english because of the possibility of hitting the international scene. Songs in danish was almost ridiculed. But that luckily changed with Peter Sommer, who is someone who really managed to create interesting danish lyrics.

Maybe Duné and Saybia is worth checking out.

Minds of 99 might be up your alley, in Danish though.

I really miss those bands aswell.

Everything seems to be low effort shit rap music now.

Spleen are having concerts this summer in Denmark.

I saw them at Jelling Festival a long time ago, they went over time and were followed by ZZ top.   First thing the lead singer from ZZ top says " you call that music?"
