A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

MODERATORS

I would like to post photos on a site that is accessible to others but that is A) somewhat respectful of personal information (i.e. nothing owned by Facebook); and B) is not too silly looking (Imgur). Is there any good option, or is Flickr still worthwhile? I don't mind if the site charges a reasonable fee. Thank you.

Glass seems to be pretty good so far

I got bitter and left around the smugmug time.

My photography priorities have changed a bit since then and I don't really feel the need for Flickr or a site like it anymore.

Good for them if things are improving for them though! πŸ˜ƒ

flickr and ipernity - flickr is larger, ipernity has a better community/support.

Yeah, I think people who want to show still photography are heading back to flickr for the most part. IG really only wants you to post video clips now, facebook is kind of a wasteland except for friends/family, no idea what is up with imgur these days, 500px is only bots. Flickr has a decent UI, not much spam, doesn't look dumb, and you can host whatever you want at high resolution, and even get some minor amount of exposure.

I pay for Flickr pro, and have no regrets. My use case is a little different than most I think... I use it as another backup mainly, but also use the API access on a WordPress site, and my android tv box has flickfolio running to play slideshows. I also run a Piwigo server at home for family sharing.

I’ve had a pro account for some 8 years now; still waiting for that Flickr comeback!

I love and pay for Flickr. It’s being revitalized too- more people are using it again. Great way to meet fellow enthusiasts and they let you upload full size and zoom in.

I still think Flickr is one of the best options out there for photos. It's still a favorite of mine, even with the fee. I think it looks great, and it's a photo centric site.

Did everyone abandon it? kind of, but not really. The hardcore audience is still around I think.

Beyond the reasons you listed, it's also been helpful as a tool for gear research. There are other tools for finding images taken with a certain lens or body but it is a useful alternative.

I use it not as a social media (kind of dead in that aspect imo), but as a backup of my photos I can reach from anywhere should I need, and to show galeries to relevant people, like, I send my photos I took on a trip to my friends that were there, or to the model on a TFP shoot.

It is a decent option to store, share and let download jpeg's in an unlimited storage for a decent price.

I still use Flickr, but glad to see others are as well since I had doubts myself. I do like how you can find groups with similar interests, which leads to finding photographers similar to you.

Flickr used to be good. I have tons of photo there. But since March this year, I cannot upload photos via the Web interface on my PC where I do all my editing. Neither does the Flickr uploader program work. I have to transfer my photos to Android phone and then upload from there. I am not the only one suffering from this upload issue. There are plenty of complaints in the Flickr group. Flickr Web interface is broken and slow to refresh. The sad thing is that Flickr do nothing about it. Think twice before you put your photos there.

It's the best out there, right now, as far as I'm concerned.
