Hi! I am looking for a simple way of sharing family photos and videos with a few people.

Our current "workflow" is to take photos and upload them to a directory on Dropbox. That directory is set to show the files without any authentication. We have a script that we run periodically that renames the files to contain the date they were taken as part of the filename.

An example of our file tree would be:

  • family
    • 2020
    • 2021
    • 2022
    • photo-xyz-2023-10-01.jpg
    • photo-xyz-2023-10-02.jpg
    • photo-xyz-2023-10-03.jpg
    • video-xyz-2023-10-04.mp4
    • photo-xyz-2023-10-05.jpg

What we need/want:

  • Not a lot of advanced configuration we'll not use
  • That the directory tree (we can re-arrange the folder structure if needed) is the "source of truth" and that the self-hosted solution just provides a nice way of navigating and looking at the photos and videos. In other words, if we have to import something manually when a new photo/video is added, it's too much effort.

We'll keep using Dropbox for now, and sync the files to our home server, which also runs docker containers.

Any ideas? I guess it could just be a web-based file browser of some kind, which makes it easy to view photos and videos. I've mostly seen complicated software when I've browsed around.

Thanks! Will do! Both of the suggestions seem pretty awesome.
