Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Hi,

I am going to purchase more disks to my PC to store video content for my Plex server.

My PC only fits two disks so I am thinking of buying the largest ones I can find.

Found these two so far which has pretty low price in my country:

  • Toshiba MG09ACA18TE 512MB 18TB
  • Seagate Exos X18 ST18000NM000J 256MB 18TB

My hardware knowledge is zero so I am wondering what you think of these two, is one better than the other?

Just for reference, I have this hardware:

  • Cooler Master CMP 510
  • Gigabyte B550 AORUS Elite V2
  • Corsair RM750X 750W v2

Do you see any issues buying any of the disks with this hardware?

Thanks!

If you are looking for the largest drives, you have 20 and 22 TB drives over 18TB. Obviously, you should get the best deals on 18 and 20 TB drives. Boith of this drives will work with your hardware. just look for the best $/TB ratio and the longest warranty time.

Thanks for the info. I ended up buying one Toshiba for now. Will probably get another one later on.
