Are you referring to Trumps impeachments?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (6 children)

That's a good example. I remember senators not supporting his second one because "Trump's time was over". So a president can do whatever they like in their last few weeks in office, and not face legal consequences for impeachable actions? So if Biden wants to have Trump shot, he should order the hit in January?

The impeachments were weak at best which is why it is not something that should have gotten him thrown out of office (or not allowed to run again). I personally dont think that its good that presidents get to do whatever they want to do, but killing an opponent doesnt fall under that. Instead they can just kill americans overseas and get away with it.

"If President Trump were still in office, I would have carefully considered whether the House managers proved their specific charge," he said. "But in this case, that question is moot. Because former President Trump is constitutionally not eligible for conviction."

That's McConnell explaining that he didn't vote for conviction, because Trump's term was over at the time of the vote. Not because the case was "weak" -- you can find video of McConnell speaking his agreement with the charge.

Impeachment is clearly impossible in this climate.

Maybe it is impossible unless the president does something actually bad. You are not going to like this, but I think a democrat president would not be ousted by their people, but a republican would.

Jan 6 was the president doing something bad. The Senate acknowledged this, but let him off because his time was up.

You could argue he should have done more on Jan 6th and less riling people up, but those same things can be said about a lot of people. But no, I am not aware of him committing any crimes.

I disagree with your assessment here, but I think we've both made ourselves clear and neither of us is going to change our minds. I shall bid you good day.
