I started mcr.town to see if there was an appetite for it and I think I've conclusively proven that there isn't!

Unlike Mastodon, where I believe local-based instances are a great idea for all sorts of reasons, it doesn't really make as much sense on Lemmy where a local sub on any server will do just as well.

There aren't any (non-bot and non-me) accounts on here so I don't feel the need to keep things running for any length of time but please let me know if I'm wrong there!

Finally, this doesn't affect my plans for mcr.wtf in any way at all. On the contrary, I intend to focus more effort there. I love that little instance and the people on it!

This instance (and [email protected]) will cease to exist at some point in the next few days.

Hi! You may not be aware of this but Lemmy doesn't downscale images for you, you have to do it yourself. Right now, everyone who visits this community is downloading a 3.5MB 4K photo. This goes for photos you post, too, so mobile users with limited data might not be particularly happy with you.

I'm not from Manchester but I'm not a million miles away, happy to chip in when I can. :)

I know there's more than one Manchester community set up on the threadiverse (as I've heard it called) already but I've yet to see a single post on either of them, yet.

I'm sure this might befall the same fate but it feels the like best home for a Manchester community is in a Manchester instance.
