From the article:

Shogakukan is listing a series of novelizations for Doga Kobo's original television anime series Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night (Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai), with the first novel covering episodes 1-4 launching on May 20. Writer Yūki Yaku (Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki), the head writer and scriptwriter for the original anime, is also penning the novelization.

What quote have you read in a light novel that was so mind-blowingly good that you immediately had the urge to have it permanently tattooed on your body?

Cross Infinite World announced on Tuesday that it has licensed five new light novel series:

Title: By a Twist of Fate, I'm Attending the Royal Academy in Disguise

Creators: Ringo (story), Tsukasa Satsuki (art)

Release Date: May 31 (digital), physical version at later date

Synopsis: Cesia, a mere servant, is attending the Royal Academy in place of the lazy, pampered daughter of the viscount she works for, all for a massive monetary reward upon her successful graduation that would allow her to live the rest of her life without any worries. She spends her days avoiding the feeble bullying of the ladies of the Academy while being worked to the bone at the viscount's mansion—until just before graduation, when she gets tricked and her pay completely vanishes! Furious, she vows to get even, no matter what it takes, when out of nowhere, the second prince shows up and offers to help her? A spunky heroine with determined resistance as her motto and a mischievous prince who puts his life on the line for his country meet in this love story where anything could happen!

Title: Let's Get to Villainessin': Stratagems of a Former Commoner

Creators: Hiironoame (story), Misumi (art)

Release Date: July 31 (digital), physical version at later date

Synopsis: Would you become the villainess to save your beloved baby sister? That was the deal promised to Mio Satou by Shizuki Sakurazaka, heiress of the Sakurazaka Group, one of the most powerful conglomerates that dominate modern day Japan. The terms? Take her place in life. Survive three years at an elite academy where the progeny of tycoons and moguls roam, and in return, Shizuki will cure Mio's terminally ill sister. But in a revelation that turns Mio's world upside down, Shizuki reveals that their reality is based on an otome game from her previous life, with herself as the game's original antagonist—an antagonist whose downfall was essential in guiding the world to its happy ending. Now, as former “commoner” Mio steps into the labyrinth of high society, can she successfully navigate her way to her predetermined demise and her sister's rescue, or does more than just doom await her at the end of this journey?

Title: Soup Forest: The Story of the Woman Who Speaks with Animals and the Former Mercenary

Creators: Syuu (story), Muni (art)

Release Date: June 30 (digital), physical version at later date

Synopsis: Sometimes it's animals, sometimes it's humans, but, today too, the person coming to Olivia's restaurant holds painful memories in their heart.

Olivia, who runs a soup restaurant outside of town on the edge of the forest, has a secret she can't tell anyone. She can hear animals' and humans' inner voices. This ability left her alienated from her family to the point that they sent her away to a convent when she was only five years old. After escaping while en route, she was brought to the restaurant by the people who would become her adoptive grandparents. Twenty years later, Olivia continues to live with her heart closed off to other humans, until, one day, a former mercenary by the name of Arthur stops by on a rainy morning, dripping wet. And what are those feelings he starts to develop for her?

Soup Forest is a place of meetings and partings, a place filled with the forest's bounties, a place of gathering for both animals and humans. They come together, share a meal, go their separate ways, and continue on with their lives.

Title: The Former Assassin Who Got Reincarnated as a Noble Girl

Creators: Satsuki Otonashi (story), MiRea (art)

Release Date: July 31 (digital), physical version at later date

Synopsis: Enter Lady Selena, the former assassin who assumed it'd be easy to step into the role of pampered mademoiselle, but who finds herself aggravated by how differently she views things compared to her flower-brained mother and her scheming, deceitful (yet utterly ineffective) stepsister. She navigates tea parties filled with ladies attempting to assert their dominance, attends an academy thick with ulterior motives, and dodges harassment flung at her with an icy glare and fierce counters, but it's that stone-cold heart of hers that leaves her isolated and alone.

One day, she learns her stepsister has become engaged to the second prince, a fact that forces her to run away from home. She doesn't get far before bumping into someone, however, and that someone just happens to be the first prince. Come watch as the cold-blooded former assassin who's never known love dives fearlessly into noble society!

Title: Too Strong to Belong! Banished to Another World!

Creators: Kazuki Karasawa (story), Akane Rica (art)

Release Date: August 31 (digital), physical version at later date

Synopsis: Sakurako longs to fall in love. Unfortunately, her super-strength scares everybody off! If only she were normal… But then she would have died long ago. Her continued survival jeopardizes time and space, so God sends Sakurako and her lovelorn best friend Kazuya to another world.

Um, a place where she can be a delicate damsel and finally get a boyfriend? Yes, please!

Will Sakurako make it as a weakling in a world of magic and monsters? Can Kazuya compete with the handsome hero in their party of adventurers? And what's this about a Demon King who's due to show up to destroy the world any day now?

This week let's try out a topic a bit deeper than asking about your favorites.

The question arose when I picked up A Silent Voice (Manga) for the April Fools joke. After having had my own problems with bullies all throughout my school days and more so after one of my daughters had to go through the same, I had a pretty extreme viewpoint. The Silent Voice anime and manga changed my stance on bullies somewhat, up to the point where I'm able to see them at least as human again.

But that made me question whether or not someone here has come across a light novel that affected them so much that it made them change their stance on something.

Okay, another simple one this week. Who is your favorite character?

For me, it’s Myne/Rosemyne from Ascendance of a Bookworm. I know, I know, it’s shocking, but hear me out: not only is she the complete opposite of the typical overpowered isekai character by being completely powerless (she is bedridden and nearly dying from climbing a flight of stairs), but she also gets everything she achieves by hard work and perseverance. Nothing is presented to her on a silver platter. No big-breasted goddess gifting her a cheat skill that let her cruise through life on easy mode. I’ve seen the argument that she’s an OP character because she got a lot of mana, but that argument doesn’t stand because she only got that much mana because she had to fight for her life constantly against her own body that was trying to kill her (and in fact killed the go Myne).

Reading about her story, character growth, and path is as captivating, motivational, and uplifting as it gets.

So that’s my favorite. Who is yours? And please don’t just throw out a name and leave me hanging wondering about the reasons.

Hi all. I am relatively new to light novels and want to start with the lightest ones but I don't own a scale which is making it difficult to figure out where to start. What I do have, however, are a few containers, a measuring cup, and a lot of water. What I am thinking is that I can fill one container to the brim with water, submerge my book, and then capture the overflow in a second container. From there, it would be possible to measure the volume of water with my measuring cup and derive its mass (and thus its weight). Theoretically, this should be equivalent to the weight of the book per Archimedes' principle. I am unsure if this method will actually work in practice though. Has anyone tried anything like this before?

At just 67g this is great carry on Light Novel. Some pet shumil had eaten some of it and now it shedded couple of grams for even more weight reduction.

I am not fluent in any of the languages but it will be perfect if someone will make peace in Compiègne Wagon that change the fate of the world. Ladies need to be prepared for every eventuality.

Especially for when I have My foreign friends at My tea party that can't speak German xor Russian and I want for them to have good time between them.

At 30g it's very handy to have in the event of a backdoor introduced by social engineering by a maintainer of compression library that runs on pretty much all Linux systems.

No lady should be left stranded without a means to send an invitation to all of her friends that definitely exist to her tea party.

467 grams for everything ever written YOU DUSTY OLD FARTS!

92

At 187g it's nice to carry around. That's just perfect weight.

The cursive though is pretty terrible if I may say so myself. I can't decipher what the author tried to write in there, but that just gives me a mysterious vibe that all my friends will envy me at all tea parties that I definitely hold.

Oh ho ho...

On the world inside there is some sort of spell cast upon it that everything moves backwards. It only makes it more mysterious and interesting for all my friends at my tea parties.

This is basically an ad for a video game but it still comes in at a dainty 170 grams and 328 pages. Very carryable.

This book weighs 265 grams and comes jam packed with 368 pages of beautiful poems.

98

Barely missing the “dainty” mark by only 14g this novel is still very carryable. Sadly the actual contents of the book are just terrible so I suggest to better stay away.

99

Even at 692 grams this novel is very much worth getting carried around by little bookworms. Who is to say that a strong girl who doesn’t have a problem with heavier books isn’t a girl as well. How would you feel if you were a girl of those giants in the norse and some asshole weight-nazi on the internet comes and tells you you’re not dainty just because you can carry more then some random made up number of weight!!! Don’t give in to this weightist propaganda.

This novel really surprised me. Even though it has a full 154g there is astonishing little text inside it. Instead every page is riddled with accompanying doodles. So much so that it looks to my eye as if it’s more doodle-book then novel. Really strange what comes out of the land of the east these days but I thought I post it as well. Even if it’s just as a warning.
