The SaberCats open the Major League Rugby playoffs when they host Dallas at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at SaberCats Stadium. Houston had the best record in MLR with a 14-2 mark and is seeded No. 1 in the Western Conference. The Jackals, seeded fourth, are in the playoffs for the first time. The SaberCats, in the postseason for a third consecutive year, reached the Western Conference finals in 2022 (losing to Seattle) and were eliminated in the first round last year (also by Seattle). Dallas is making its first playoff appearance.

Join us this Sunday for the [Houston SaberCats] Official Watch Party for the first away game of the season! Great excuse for an all day party - bounce house for the kiddos from noon. SaberCats kick off at 5pm! Grab your mates, family and even your pup and head on down.

“Rugby has always been important to us at Platypus Brewing, it’s part of who we are,” said Sean Hanrahan, the Owner and Managing Partner of Platypus Brewing. “We are thrilled to partner with the SaberCats and look forward to being a part of their continued success.”

So I guess this explains why I didn't see any Karbach options at the concession stand during the preseason match.

When you sign a premium fly half in Mack Mason it's difficult to retain someone like AJ who will be warmly remembered by all at the Seawolves. Securing an American front row player of Joe's quality is fantastic. He adds significant depth to our front row and brings a wealth of experience from top-flight rugby in England and France."

- Allen Clarke, Head Coach and Director of Rugby in Seattle

We're going to miss him Barret at #8, wish him well.

Long-time USA star Danny Barrett has confirmed his retirement from rugby. The 33-year-old most recently turned out for the Houston SaberCats in Major League Rugby. He has now taken up an Executive Director role with the Golden Eagles, a non-profit organization that provides financial support to the USA’s men’s and women’s sevens sides.

I'm sure Povey will like being home in Canada, Toronto can certainly make use of him to rebuild. But I will miss hime here in H-Town wearing the black and gold. I think him and Boyer were woefully underutilized this season.
