A Nintendo Switch 2 could be on the way, so here's what we've heard and think we know.

According to a well known Nintendo insider, Super Mario. Bros. Wonder on Nintendo Switch is "hard" and "absolutely decimating testers." The report comes the way of Zippo, who notes that "if you think this game is going to be a walk in the park, then you're in for a rude awakening."

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX is a Remaster of a Playstation monster raising simulator with the ability to Fuse parents to make new babies with inherited attacks, traits, or stats of the parents. (cross breeding but the parents are consumed in the process). Like a fantasy version of Tecmo's horse racing simulator (Gallop Racer), Monster Rancher will have you budgeting your Money and your creature's lifespan to provide a balanced feeding and drill schedule to raise it's stats, learn new attacks, and fight your way to Master rank. Along the way you'll have story opportunities to discover hidden/locked monsters and raise them as well.

The original gimmick in 1999 was being able to visit the "Shrine" in game, and be prompted to replace the game disc with Music CDs or another game. When prompted again you would reinsert your game and a monster would be generated. The downside of this was it ended up leaving a lot of people excluding from a large portion of the game's available monsters to raise.

DX replaces this gimmick with a built in Song List to generate every monster, giving all players complete access to the game's entire library of monsters, along with many new variants (same given breed but with different attributes) not present or possible in the original game.

There's a Discord community for this niche game, along with the last remaining English fan-run resource/guide site LegendCup.com entirely dedicated to Monster Rancher since the 90s.

Members of the Monster Rancher community use the game's save upload system to run AI v AI tournaments across many different formats and stat caps to include players of all skill levels. The game is cross-region, and cross-platform compatible for these types of tournaments so DX allows you to play on your platform of choice.

Hope to see you on the Ranch!

For me, probably Zelda! :)

I have my kids' switches all set up in the family group and have the parental control app on my phone (and tablet - in case my husband needs to access it when I'm out of the house). They like playing locally together (on their separate systems), and I want to keep this, but... I don't want them playing with strangers online.

Is there a way I can lock it down to where they can only play with their friends and no new people can send them a request (and they can't send an outbound request)?

This all got brought back to the forefront when my 7 year old (who is developmentally disabled) was playing with a stranger on Minecraft Dungeons last night.

I also tried to change Microsoft family settings and kept getting errors on their end. Website gave me a generic "we're having issues loading this page" error and I couldn't seem to find what I needed in their app.

I've tried searching online without luck, and when I try to change settings (semi blindly) I end up taking away their ability to play with each other.

TL;DR I'm wanting to limit their online interactions with just each other until they're older/developmentally ready. Looking for a way to block all incoming friend requests or a way to just limit online co-op play with just people on their friends list. Switch and/or Microsoft settings that need to be changed will be appreciated.

Man, it's taking too long to recruit Veyle and I'm on Chapter 17... she's absolutely adorable.

Hi there, I’m looking for a simple soccer/football game to play with my child in couch co-op mode. Have you any suggestions? FIFA would be my last call since I think it’s overkill (for now).

Edit: Suggested games:

  • Super Arcade Soccer
  • Captain Tsubasa
  • Mario Strikers
  • Rocket League

Hey Fediverse, what split-screen games do you guys play? There's a ton of "100 best couch-sloth co-op split-screen Nintendo Switch games in 2023 that will make your head explode!" articles/blogspam out there in the Googleverse, but it's more helpful to me if I can get feedback from people who actually play these games. Like, all the Switch gamers out there with similar preferences, what do you guys play?

For me and my wife, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the gold standard. I dunno if anything can top it. I think we're looking for a game that is split-screen, easy to pick up, has easy controls, and leans towards the casual gaming side. It doesn't necessarily have to be co-op, so PVE is definitely welcome (think Grand Prix mode in Mario Kart). And I guess I should mention split-screen isn't a requirement either if it's co-op and super fun. I remember liking some of the old Lego Star Wars games back in the day, but over the years my wife's opinion on the franchise has gone from "Meh" to "Ugh" (thanks a lot, TLJ!), so any game with a "long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" setting is not gonna do it.

I made a post similar to this several years ago on a platform whose name starts with "R" and ends with "eddit" but didn't get too many good suggestions, so I'm hoping time, a different platform, and an overall friendlier posting environment will aid in my quest to find a Mario Kart equivalent for our household. What do y'all play? I'm all ears.

Does anyone have a four year old that plays switch? Mario Odyssey is too complicated but she likes running around. She still struggles with jumping and walking at the same time. Are there any very simple games that she might enjoy?

Based on the following GPU specs that were shared to me, its a decent performance jump, 0.6 TFLOPS docked to 1.35 TFLOPS.

For comparison, Steam Deck is 1.6 TFLOPS.

I love the hybrid nature of the Switch and a more powerful version some with some additional tweaks would be great.

What would you like to see in a Switch successor?

Do you like pet raising sims like Monster Rancher?
Do you like Ultraman Kaiju from the 1960s?
Do you like competitive battles with a fun community?

Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher released October of 2022 and has a place in the Monster Rancher community Discord and monthly tournaments run by volunteer hosts, and loads of UKMR Guides and tools to help get you caught up!

Ultra Kaiju MR is normally $50 with the sale price bringing it down to $34.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, "Monster Rancher is a pet (monster) raising sim that began in 1997. It differs from other Pet taming games in that it plays very much like a sim with the nuances or a creature having multiple life stages from Baby to Prime to elderly. Your budget is your Monster's lifespan + your money to try and accomplish the most you can during your short time with the monster. Monster's can also be bred (fused) so that babies can inherit attacks and attributes of it's parent(s). Battles are also in Real Time instead of turn based. Your resource continuously builds up over time in the match (how fast varies based on breed or mixed breed), your attacks consume an amount of this resource to execute, and attacks have designated distances in which they can be used as you maneuver close/far from your opponent to position for a given attack.

Competitive battles are held AI v AI since the only way to hold manual battles is to be in the same room on the same console. The meta is to engineer your monster's attributes, attacks, personality and traits so that it performs the best it can while hopefully eliminating as much bad choice that the AI can make as possible.

Monster Rancher is a fairly niche game with a rather small community when compared to other franchises. Monster Rancher 2 DX (On Switch, Steam, iOS) is easily the most popular game in the franchise and the most played. However, we just want more people to play with, and UKMR is a niche within a niche. The competitive scene is very welcoming, no one is holding back information to gain an advantage, we want other players to perform well for exciting matches, so you can expect lots of help from the community even as a new player or new competitor.

Hope to see you on the Ranch!

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said the publisher failed to heed Nintendo’s advice by releasing Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope too soon.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Guillemot suggested Nintendo had advised the company that it would be beneficial to release the sequel on Switch’s successor.
