He's posted some stuff here before, he's a lefty, but he's in good faith.

As always feedback is welcome.

This is not opinion or leftist. It’s news about fighting in the party, which is factual, recent, and on-topic.

Removal of this post is admitting that this sub is only about being a safe space for conservatives to circle-jerk while ignoring reality.

I encourage a discussion about the recent conflicts inside the party, how that might impact the party moving forward, and what can be done to prevent this divide.

Preamble: I'm a fuck up sometimes, I will probably fuck this up at some point. Call it out if I do. I'm trying my best.

Rule 1: I will always send a message when taking an action. Lemmy does not do this automatically.

Rule 2: First instance of a rule break will result in a warning. (Lets be real, no one actually reads the sidebar on a sub) (Unless of course it's really obvious like spamming ads or porn or something.)

Rule 3: Use my brain. This ties into the bad faith rule.

Rule 4: Err on the side of leniency.

So I'm adding a bad faith rule, effective in ~24 hours.

What is bad faith? Well I'm lenient, and I'm going to say it's an insult without substance. I can't mind read, so that's about as good as I can do.

Shit like "America is a shithole." is bad faith. "America has X problem, because of Y reason." is presumably in good faith. Or at least that's how I'm going to interpret it. Again, I'm going to try to use my brain a little bit here.

Also regular users get a little more leeway if they've provided substance in the past. We all get upset and comment dumb shit sometimes.

When the bad faith rule goes in effect, I'm removing the current Nazi and Fascist rule. That was a stupid rule, and never should've been made. I do consider it a fuck up of mine.

Also, for fucks sake, don't tell people to kill themselves.

1. Invite a lefty mod to moderate the leftists commenting in bad faith (I have someone in mind for this). I'm doing this because my bad-faith-o-meter is completely broken for lefties.

2. Grow a pair, and start moderating properly. Yes there will be borderline cases, that's the hard part. No more ignoring "a short drop and a quick stop" because it doesn't have a keyword in it. ( I got so many reports on that one, and eventually an admin from another instance stepped in. )

3. Implement proper mod rules. Things such as "Always send a message or a comment reply when taking an action, because lemmy doesn't do that and having to check mod logs is bad ux" and "on the first instance of a rule breaking comment, warn and let them edit their comment, because removing a comment is effectively the same as deleting and they can't edit a removed comment" I'll probably fuck up at some point, but damn it I'm trying.

4. Try and make peace with lemmy.world because somehow lemmy.world blocked this sub without defeding from lemm.ee (No seriously, check out this link, https://lemmy.world/c/[email protected]) I'm also banned from lemmy.world, never got a message about either, but that's a bit off topic.

5. Get rid of rule 3, The one about the keywords "Nazi" and "Fascist" being not allowed. The bad-faith rule should cover what rule 3 was trying to do, but better.

The plain and simple of it is that I'm not a good moderator. I have no idea what I'm doing. I wanted a community where people could post conservative stuff without it getting overwhelmed by lefty stuff, and then you could have discussions/arguments in the comment section. Bring to light stories that wouldn't normally be seen on lemmy. Since that didn't exist on lemmy, I had to do it myself.

Right now, there's a lot of toxicity, some straight up telling people to kill themselves. My whole moderation policy was basically "So long as it isn't a straight up slur, you could comment it".

You'd think it'd be simple, just ban those who do that. Well, what about those who defend baby murder? I know lefties genuinely believe it isn't, but I do. How do you tell what is horrible shit, when lefties act like horror movie monsters?

What about those who I'm like 90% sure are arguing in bad faith? I want to encourage discussions and arguments, and if I'm wrong, what then?

Me doing keyword-based moderating was a bad idea, but I am at a loss of how to do better, without breaking what this sub was supposed to be about.

I need ideas.

How should I moderate this community?

The words Nazi and Fascist have no meaning. No one is referring to 1940s Germany or 1930s Italy. It's just name-calling at this point. You can see this all over this sub.

So the banned words has been extended from just stuff like racial slurs to include Nazi and Fascist.

Yes, I do realize this is a slippery slope, but hopefully any meaning you wanted to impart can still be done without the kindergarten-level name-calling.

Hell of a lot better than my "Conservatives Only" tag idea or banning bad faith arguments. It's a clear cut rule that should help with a problem without cutting down on actual discussions.
