I understand that, but it still should have been more than 48 hours, that is not nearly enough for a protest, this is at least in my opinion. And yeah this wouldn't apply to the subs that are staying dark indefinitely.

As for Lemmy, I'm genuinely glad that it's responding well, not having to deal with a clunky, slow website feels much better. I really hope that Lemmy grows, imo it's better when there's competition.

To add to the reply that was already given to you, I just want to let you know:

When I go to the instance startrek.website, I get told that I'm not logged in anymore and that I need to make a new account.

Someone is working on a browser extension so this can get fixed, even if it's just a temporary fix. So when this is created there will be no need for you to paste the link manually.

Since this is basically the inception of Lemmy we just have to be a little patient so Lemmy gets its right footing and they implement all the necessary features.

For me it was Metal Gear Solid 3 and 4, as well as Devil May Cry 3.

I used to have a pretty hard time thinking about what were my favorite games and the ones that changed my tastes and probably perspectives.

I realized that every time get asked this question the first games that come to mind are always these 3.

r/relationships...

That was a cesspool of bad advice and full of people doing mental gymnastics to always arrive to the same conclusion: break up/divorce, sue, key/scratch their car.

I don't want anything else related to Meta...

I stopped using Fb years ago and had to use it again not long ago because I moved countries and the demographic here can't stop using Fb/Instagram/Whatsapp for everything related to business.

But if it uses ActivityPub (and from my understanding that's decentralized), couldn't I just use my Mastodon account to interact with people there? Would that mean that my Instagram (or, in this case, "Threads") account can potentially communicate with Mastodon accs as well?

The Verge article:

“A significant number of subreddits shifting to private caused some expected stability issues, and we’ve been working on resolving the anticipated issue,” spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt tells The Verge.

So... According to Reddit the blackout is the culprit, I guess?

So either it's just an outage and they're faulting the blackout, or the blackout is actually the culprit. Either way I hope this works. However, I'm still not going back to Reddit even if they fix and reverse everything.

I need an ELI5 of how the fediverse and federated networks work. I'm trying to make some kind of guide/explanation (a "dumbed down" version so other people that are highly confused (like at was at the beginning) can understand, but I realized that I don't really understand it fully yet, so I needed some help from ELI.

But I'm in complete refusal and denial to enter Reddit at least until a week goes by.

I read this in David Attenborough's voice

I just logged out of my account and uninstalled the app (Sync) for the protest, only to realize that I needed an ELI5 30 minutes later... Hopefully my favorite/most useful subreddits manage to join Lemmy as well!

Tbh I feel more heartbroken about the people that worked so hard to make those 3rd party apps for years just to get fucked by some dude who wanted a bit more money.

It just hit 12am on the 12th of June here and I refreshed one last time and the last post on my frontpage is from 7hrs ago... It truly feels like a ghost town.

Anyways let's enjoy our time here in Lemmy now!!

I honestly think it would be better if there was an indefinite shut down of all the subreddits that are participating. Even if Reddit tries to kick out the mods and replace them, they shouldn't be able to replace them all in a matter of days.

It's still my opinion that the shut down of the 3rd party apps on June 30th will be a heavier burden on Reddit.

I stopped browsing Reddit already and will delete my account on June 30th.
