It's to measure insulin response in diabetic people. Also it's not plain, it's pumpkin spice! :p

The goal is to give someone under monitoring a very large volume of sugar in a controlled environment and measure their body's insulin response. This is particularly a test of Phase I insulin response when your body responds to sugar intake by releasing stored insulin as opposed to Phase II insulin response where your body secretes insulin as it is produced to bring down elevated blood sugar after the Phase I stores are depleted.

That said this is a nutty amount of sugar and I had no idea that they made them this large.

Thank you for this post! I am excited to try this winter.

They would have to just hang out and not really be able to leave for 5-6 hours while our other friend is working, but could do their own thing. Basically they are just there for safety reasons if anything happens to our friend doing the work who we have a fair price established. First friend has a lot of sedentary hobbies so boredom isn't a risk but I want to treat them fairly.

I have been eating so much fruit, tinned fish and Pita and it has been great for my health but I am starting to crave variety. What can I eat?

My old one got squished in moving. It was a Kobo Klara I got as a gift. Before, I had a refurbished kindle paperwhite 7th gen that I liked the UI of much more but didn't like having an Amazon product.

Wondering what is out there now.

My main desiderata is that it has warm backlighting and is small. Would also like better .pdf reading than the Kobo that was basically non-doable.

I wanted to buy $100 of bitcoin in HS and couldn't figure out how. Would have been like $60,000,000 :ccc

I've only read the two, but I remember being skeeved out when I read it and feeling very validated when I read Galatea.

So it's acceptable for Elselvier et al to milk academics blind? At the minimum, authors should not be charged.

I think Richard Powers is a sex weirdo who comes up with elaborate novel structures to contain his tulpa gf's in. I was really put off by the woman in the last short story who goes from bimbo to sexy ghost. That felt prototypical for how he sees women. He also admits to stalking and creeping on one of his grad students in his autofiction Galatea 2.2. The short stories were beautiful but the novel itself felt poorly executed with a lot of cut plot threads.

Alright but look at how much they pay the authors. What other business pays ZERO dollars for their core product?

It's true. I do. Even so-called 'nice' cops. (they're not nice...)

The poorly-animated cast of the spin-off series barely resembles the characters we know and love

Not seeing the downside lol

Holy shit I had no idea it had been that long but I got a cake day message and it made me check lol. Anyways thanks for all the laughs and learning over the years. I am so grateful this space exists...maybe it's finally time to get on the liberapay lmao.

Some of my best personal writing has started as comments or posts where I got too pressed/invested and the pen ain't turn off. Overall, I still really struggle with setting appropriate boundaries with the internet but the lower speed and higher quality of this forum have been real boons to me.

Keep posting. rat-salute-2

Like I mean a place that doesn't feel like a total corpo nothing flavorless anywhere monstrosity. I don't even care if it's gross or rickety I just want it to feel like a real place.

I never stayed at one before but I wanted to do something special and they are all like $200+ even on a Tuesday. Damn I just wanted a hot tub night.

I could maybe swing like $120 but nothing like that exists. Even the big corpo ones start at $160. At this point, I should just build an onsen lmao.

This is replacing the normal startup sequence.

E: now the screen is whiting out but I can still send and receive calls by typing in numbers.
