I asked the local second hand store why they don't get high-end stuff in (Would love to get hold of a yamaha v6a because I can't justify the new price) - they said that everyone is going to soundbars now. Obviously the people that sell to them are the average consumer that thinks soundbars are superior because they take less room. Anyway, this denon avr 590 sort of supports 7.1... not via hdmi but it will take 5.1 content and upmix - unfortunately it can't output true 7.1 even though it supports dolby digital +. And the problem with having to feed the last two channels to an amp is you don't know what volume it needs to be and would need to adjust it all the time. But it's better than nothing. I did test a true 7.1 amp at one stage but try as I might, true 7.1 content had hardly anything coming out of the last two channels - I'm not talking about discrete like the rear channels of 5.1 sometimes are, I mean there was virtually nothing.
