Been using AMD GPUs and hence AMD Adrenalin for a while and so far I can just drag a voltage slider in the app to undervolt my GPU but I recently upgraded to a used RTX 3080. Pretty scary to see it suck 300W alone when my Superflower Leadex III only has 550W to spread across the entire PC. When I downloaded MSI Afterburner I'm confused on what to do with this graph concerning voltage and frequency, and what points to shift.

So how would I go about reducing the power draw of my RTX 3080, without just setting a hard power limit? I would like to try and retain it's stock performance while reducing the power draw/thermals/fan speed etc.

Any advice?

This is my PC:

CPU: i7-14700K

Cooler: Valkyrie A360W RGB AIO water cooler

Motherboard: MSI PRO Z790-A MAX WiFi

RAM: 32GB DDR5 5600 with XMP

GPU: RTX 2060 6GB

OS: Windows 11

What happened?

Everything looked normal until I encountered occasional screen blackouts on both dedicated GPU and the onboard GPU. So I did everything, updating drivers, booting into Linux, changing monitors, and I found out the graphics card was not really the problem. And I started to realize the CPU was running hot too. The same OC settings have been running for over one year without problem for me. Updating the BIOS to the latest M80 version doesn’t help either. I also reapplied thermal paste but it did not help.

My BIOS settings:

Version: M80 (7E07vM8)

ME Firmware ver: ME_16.1.35.2557

OC Profile: Intel default profile

Lite Load Mode: Mode 9 (ACLL: 40, DCLL: 110)

Load Line Calibration: Auto

CPU Voltage Mode: Adaptive Offset

Core multiples: all using Intel defaults

This settings has been stable running for over one year already, now suddenly not working

Two major problems now:

Problem 1: Idle temperature is abnormally hot

On idle, CPU package temperature is around 85c to 90c already. If I run the Intel XTU benchmark and fully load it, it will instantly shoot up to 100c within 1 sec. The heat is real, I touch the AIO water out tube, it is significantly warmer than the other one.

Also, the individual core is reporting 60c to 70c on idle, still too hot, but way lower than the package temperature of 90c, also doesn’t make any sense. Please see figure1.

figure1

So the whole CPU now becomes quite hot even when 1 or 2 cores has some tiny loading on it. Is it the CPU or motherboard having some short circuit internally that can cause this?

Problem 2: Vcore is jumping around when on idle

Also something strange I noticed is the Vcore is jumping around. I tuned the ACLL before so the Vcore will follow the VID very closely. This jumping was not C-state power saving, I already switched to Ultimate Performance on Win11, so the CPU is always on higher clock speed, VID is stable on 1.38V, but Vcore jumps from 0.95V to 1.42V. When on full load, VID and Vcore are stable on 1.05V, temperature still very hot on 100c anyway. Please see figure2.

figure2

Experience told me this may not be related to OC settings entirely. Do you think this is due to a bad VRM on hardware level?

I know this prolly isn't the best place to ask but my gpu while using ark survival ascended as a base test my gpu clock doesn't go above 390 any ideas on what causes this cause usual base clock is 1410 MHz up to 1670 MHz and my card can't get near that while ocing

I have an asrock steel legends 9070 xt with 2 pcie plugs, and was wondering if its fine to run it with a higher power limit of 330w, since I saw each pcie connector can only supply 150 and the motherboard can supply 75

Specs:

  • CPU: Intel i9-13900K
  • Cooler: NZXT Kraken Z73 (360mm AIO)
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming WiFi
  • Ambient temp: 22°C

The Problem: I was getting bad temperatures on my 13900K:

  • Idle: 45-55°C (I think should be 30-40°C)
  • Gaming: 80°C average with spikes to 87°C
  • Voltage: 1.368V in idle

I was confused because I kept seeing people online claiming they get 20-30°C idle and 60°C gaming, which seemed impossible with my Kraken 360.

Any tips? Im not that OC guy, I just want normal temps xD

Does loq ryzen 5 7235 Hs have the option to change uclk:mclk from gear 2 to gear 1 anywhere as i can't find it in the bios Is it because the cpu is bad? Or is it because lenovo is bad?

I've never dealt with overclocking modern CPUs. I recognize that the gains are marginal compared to how they used to behave, but I'd still like to get the most out of my hardware.

I have a 9950X3D that appears to be unstable if I set curve optimizer to -10. As of now, all I've done is remove power limits with PBO. Did I just end up with a bad CPU or is there a guide I should follow?

I have a 2x24GB 7200mhz Klevv Cras V kit that doesn't have a built-in profile for that speed.

Build: 9800X3D // 4080 Super // ASRock x870E Taichi // Corsair RM1000x // Gallahad Trinity Pro 2 AIO

I'm hoping for some guidance on where to start. I've learned about the different clocks and have defaulted to a 1:2 setting at 7200mhz which is the "fastest" EXPO profile it shipped with. My goal is to hit a low latency cl28-cl30 6000mhz profile, and if possible, 6400mhz which seems to be the sweet spot for my setup.

Cheers in advance.

Hi

so i recently upgraded my set up for my gaming PC but have encountered issues with games crashing (not instantly but over time while gaming). My CPU is overclocked and runs at around 4.4 GhZ and my PC runs perfectly fine when i,m not gaming. However I have heard people saying that my motherboard is not designed for that level of performance and i'm wondering if I should put the speed back to the OG 3.8GhZ. My motherboard appears to have issues running my RAM at 4000MhZ and I had to reduce it back down to 2.6GhZ (but I can adjust it a bit higher).

Processor : AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor 3.80 GHz

Installed RAM : Patriot Viper Elite II 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-4000 CL20 Memory

MB : Gigabyte A520M K V2

Storage : 1.82 TB HDD ST2000DM006-2DM164, 119 GB SSD ADATA SU800NS38

Graphics Card : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti (8 GB)

I know this is not directly linked to overclocking specifically but any help would be appreciated cheers.

Original Title: I was wondering is 5.125GHz at 1.35v good OC for an 8600G using basic air cooler and liquid metal for the die, generic paste on the heat spreader. This seems to be about as high as this chip would scale.

This is my PC Setup,

CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K

CPU Cooler: Antec Symphony 360 ARGB Liquid Cooler

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 U AX

RAM: 64GB (2x32GB) Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 5600MHz CL40 RGB

GPU: Asus RTX 5070 Ti Gaming OC 16GB GDDR7

Storage:

1TB WD Blue SN580 M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe

2TB WD Blue SN580 M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe

1TB Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe

Case: Antec Gaming Case C3 ARGB (4 x ARGB PWM fans)

PSU: Gigabyte UD850GM 850W ATX 3.0 Gold Modular

I did some undervolting and optimizing after a lot of restarts and I reach a point where my CPU is at a constant voltage of 1.267V even when idle and when Gaming, Temps are really good not over 70C and I'm just not sure if it's low enough for the CPU and it's longevity. Does someone know andbcan help me?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to upgrade my system by installing a Coffee Lake R0 stepping CPU (QTJ1 – similar to an i9-9900K ES/QS) on a Gigabyte GA-Z170-Gaming K3 rev 1.1 motherboard. I want to make sure I understand the risks and requirements before flashing anything or touching the hardware. 😅 In Russian we call ES cpu mutants 🤣

⚙️ Current Setup: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170-Gaming K3 rev 1.1 (UEFI)

BIOS: F2c (custom mod based on original F2, from 2016)

CPU: Intel i5-6400 (running with BCLK overclock, which I’d like to keep as a fallback option)

🎯 Goal: To get a QTJ1 (Coffee Lake R0, 9th gen-like chip) running on this Z170 board with minimal risk, and ideally without any physical pin mods.

❓ Questions: Pin modding: Is it required? Or is it enough to just mod the BIOS with CoffeeTime, assuming the board already supports custom firmware?

Intel ME version:

What ME version should I install for compatibility?

Does it matter if I plan to disable ME afterward (as many guides suggest)?

Should I update ME before flashing BIOS, or after?

BIOS modding base:

Can I safely use my already-modded F2c BIOS as a base for CoffeeTime patching?

Or should I revert to a clean official F2 BIOS before starting the modding process?

Avoiding newer BIOS versions:

F22 and newer don’t add 9th gen support anyway

They might remove BCLK overclocking support

Include performance-hitting security patches (e.g., Spectre/Meltdown)

May prevent rollback to earlier versions like F2c

✅ What I want to keep: The ability to fall back to i5-6400 with BCLK OC in case the QTJ1 doesn't boot or is unstable

Avoid flashing anything irreversible or bricking the board

💬 TL;DR: Has anyone successfully run QTJ1 or similar R0 Coffee Lake CPUs on a Z170 Gaming K3? Any advice on:

BIOS version

ME firmware version

Stability

Rollback safety

Any first-hand experience, links to guides, or CoffeeTime configs would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Currently trying to get 4 sticks of ddr5 that are rated at 6000mhz to run at anything above 4000mhz but no matter what I do the pc won't boot every time I change the speeds.

Using an i9-12900kf on the msi pro z790 s wifi

Corsair Vengeance RGB 16gb dimms

I'm aware that it's better to use 2 dimms on ddr5 but I'd still like to see what's possible with 4

Hi, I bought a few months ago a ryzen 9 5900x. It ran fine until now, when I wanted to push it a little and get to 5Ghz. On turbo, it's running at 4.7ghz and without 3.7ghz. I asked chatgpt how to, gave him details about how it was going and what I wanted to do with it, and he said to me that my core voltage was a bit high (1.46v with turbo and 1.04v without), and that it could damage itself if I leave it like that. He also told me (and I had seen it before) that my cpu is using a lot of power when not doing anything (60-110w @ 10% usage. Is this all normal and if not how do I fix it ?
