A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

I live in rural NM, and getting physical comics is a trek. I used to use Comixology, but missed physical books so much I opened a comic and game shop in my small town. The comic side of things failed, my game sales were financing the comics. So after just over a year i cancelled my comic account to focus on the games.

Since then Amazon took over comixology and moved shopping for comics onto Amazon, which after three days of trying to find titles I have decided to explore other avenues.

I know when I was selling comic books marvel had their own app, do all of the publishers have those? Or is Amazon the only name in the game?

I am looking to catch up on Dynamite’s Red Sonya, Marvel’s Conan, Elfquest, anything X-Force, X-23, and probably Firefly. I have not read a comic since my last order came into the shop in January 2020. The news of the new X-23 series is what started to pull me back in again, I did manage to get a subscription to that on Amazon.

I own a copy of the first issue of Punisher 2099, a comic series set in the "2099" alternate universe created by Marvel.

This comic is from 1993, and it looks it. To start with the blue trim on the cover is metallic foil, as was the style at the time.

Inside, the story follows the adventures of some guy who is not Frank Castle, but looks just like him.

(I think a colorist forgot the Punisher's skull in one of the hero panels...)

Not-Frank is a member of the police force in the futuristic dystopia. He somehow escapes suspicion even when he is basically just in Punishermode at the precinct.

At least by being a cop, he is able to hack into the security systems to ensure cameras don't catch his face.

Overall this issue is silly in how it overdramtically ports the Punisher story into a cyberpunk setting. The ultraviolence is turned up pretty high, approaching Fallout 1 death animation levels.

The issue is pretty standard Punisher cleaning out the criminals fare, without much nuance. The costume and novelty of the setting do make the comic memorable though.

And that's a wrap. God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn't always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love l've encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we've shared together on set - and for that I am forever grateful. ❤️

End of month list is up! Small one for me but that's ok!

Operation Sunshine Already Dead #4 - Final issue of this run. Will there be another? Who knows but if there is I'll get it. Love the LPOTL crew's stuff, they also did Soul Plumber but I like this series better, I'll get whatever they do next.

William Of Newbury #3 - Loving this series! Based off an actual dude of a similar name, the series follows an anthropomorphized raccoon priest traveling and ridding the countryside of demons and foul spectres. The art is great imo, sort of reminds me of the old PSP game Death Jr, but like almost watercolored.

Drawing Blood #4 - Kevin Eastman rules. This series isn't about turtles but it's still pretty interesting so far!

Honorable mention to Falling In Love on the Path to Hell (3rd print). It's getting a 3rd for a reason, it's damn good! A cowboy and a cool lady samurai die and wash up in purgatory together, what's not to love? Cool art, good writing, and O'Hallorhan colors!

Well that's it for me! What're y'all grabbing this week?

I enjoy Hellboy so much that I’m considering reading more Dark Horse comics instead of the usual Marvel/DC duo that I’ve pursued before.

I may also take up reading Dark Horse Manga if I can find the right work that doesn’t offend me.

I've recently been reading Rick Remender's Sacrificers and man it's so good! Love the world building and some great characters. Max Fiumara's art is absolutely top tier.

I'm curious what are some of your favourites? Would love some recommendations. Other lesser known ones I can recommend are Wes Craig's Kaya and Stephanie Phillip's Grim.

New list! Good week for me, I'm all in on a few of these:

Minor Threats II The Fastest Way Down #4 - Love Patton Oswalt, and Scott Hepburn's world building is cool as hell.

Sacrificers #10 - Love this series. Not all in on Rick Remender but this series is damn good. Pigeon is whooping ass.

Six Fingers #5 - Last issue of this one, been a good run combined with The One Hand

Universal Monsters Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives #4 -

Dick Tracy #3 - These new Dick Tracy comics have been pretty decent.

EC Epitaphs From The Abyss #1 - It's here! I've been waiting for this and Cruel Universe! New EC Horror and SF anthologies! I tried to put it on my list back when it was announced and my shop said "shove it it's too early" lol. I hope there's an Abyss-Keeper!

What're you pulling?

I first encountered him on an indie book called "Puma Blues" which was just stunning.

Premise was a scientist sent into the woods post apocalypse to document mutations... Like flying Manta Rays!

Collected edition here, not quite as complete as advertised. Missing issue #20 and all the glorious covers.

My Bad Escape From Peculiar Island #3 - It's dumb as shit, so so dumb, but so am I lol. It's funny though.

Man's Best #5 - Not so dumb, pretty great actually. Space travel through the eyes of some cybernetic pets, a zoo world, and some double crossery?! We'll find out in this issue what's up with that I'm sure!

Powerpuff Girls #1 - Ok I usually hate anything based on a previous IP, (this is a shining example of the type of thing I mean) but goddamn I loved PPG growing up. Someone talk me out of picking this up please.

Fishflies #7 - This is the end my friends. Been a great series, can't wait for the conclusion.

Remote Space #2 - #1 was good, not sure I'll stick it out for the rest but I'll try it again. Basically the plot is human evolution took two paths, one cybernetics and space travel and the other FEV from fallout and terrestrial livin', and there's about to be a war on.

Rifters #2 - I like Posehn, not sure I'll finish this one either though.

Biker Mice From Mars #1 - Oh jeez, another cartoon from my childhood?! Someone save me from myself!

For real though can someone call Danny Antonucci and tell him now's the time to publish "Ed's Comics" and make all the comics Ed would have been reading?!

Anyway that's it for me this week, what're y'all pullin'? And seriously someone talk me out of PPG and Biker Mice lmao.

I emailed a librarian as well if she could find the original issues of Captain America from the older eras of Marvel Comics: from the 1940s to the 1950s when Jack Kirby was working for Timely and Atlas, I think.

I would prefer to use my local library as opposed to MU if anyone can direct me to some resources of the older comics made back then.

I may have posted about Captain America using that app beforehand.
