Including the early thread with 30 comments, we are still at over double the activity compared to the old r/Melbourne subreddit.
I hope those who don't go to the old sub frequently can find there way here.
Reports from a couple of mates who use it say they find this one buddy and slow to load. I assume they're on a phone. Any ideas or can I inform them of improvements.
Still, this place kicks it's butt for content also. The old daily thread seems to be a lot of the same questions people posted as posts before the great reddit blunder of 2023 which would pretty much be instantly downvoted to the bottom. Loud bangs, tailgating drivers, choppers over reservoir etc. I might be exagurating a little, but it's lost its soul nonetheless.
I’m using Mlem on iPhone and it has a few bugs still but I’m enjoying feeling like it’s the start of something bigger and better.
I feel like we flhave a natural filter that keeps the ruder Facebook users there. I would just suggest giving Jerboa a try, put the time into setting it up and subscribing to C/Melbourne+ a few major communities.
You can give them a list of easy links like;

Thanks! I'll get onto it, they're good people and most of us know them already.
I mean, its not as slick as the Reddit app but just a chrome tab on my phone works just fine for me
Ah, yeah I'm using some third party browser. It won't log me in using that, but read only isn't terrible. Maybe I'll use chrome just for this.
Look into wefwef through your browser. I made another comment with a bit more detail.
I'm using Chrome too. There's the odd glitch but works fine 99% of the time.
I originally made an account with lemmy.world. everything was fine until there was a big influx of users on that instance, then it all slowed down. I then made an account with aussie.zone which is clearly a much smaller instance. Much much quicker now.
If they are iPhone users point them towards the wefwef PWA - https://wefwef.app/posts/lemmy.world/all . It's basically Apollo through a web app.
If Android, Connect or Jerboa are the best apps currently, with RIF and Sync to release Lemmy versions within a month or so.
Are you suggesting a psyops mission?
I'm not sure how to let them know without seeming like we are desperate, so just casually mentioning something like "wow, I can't believe how much less activity there is on the old subreddit compared to the Lemmy community".
Ok sure. I might leave that to others. I like the development side here rather than the marketing.
Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
