I just upgraded from a 6700k with a Crucial MX500 M.2 SATA SSD to a 7800x3D on an ASRock B650i. I also bought a TeamGroup MP34 NVME to go with the build since the motherboard has two M.2 slots.

My plan was to keep windows on the MX500 until I can transfer my files to the new TeamGroup SSD, then reformat it and use it as storage. I installed the TeamGroup SSD in the front socket and the MX500 at the back of the motherboard. The TeamGroup SSD is the only one recognized in the bios so I had to install windows on it which was no problem but when I went to My PC, I could only see the TeamGroup SSD and no other drives. Is this because there's some incompatibility issue with it being in the back? I would like to find out before having to take it apart and swapping them.

If the issue is that I can't use the SSD with this motherboard, would I be able to use an M.2 SSD enclosure and connect it via USB to transfer my files? Or would I be locked out because it's a new motherboard?

Hi SFF community

As the title suggests, I’m currently looking to put together a new rig. I’m eyeing the 4070ti/tiS coupled with a 7800x3d for 2K 144 gaming and at my budget I’m considering the Dan A4-H2O and Lian Li Q58 and I’m wondering if anyone has comparable experiences with these two cases.

FYI I’m most concerned about thermals/noise, will be using AIO and undervolting both cpu and gpu. Ik the q58 is about 3.5L larger but that’s acceptable if it positively influences airflow/thermals but similarly I’m concerned if the glass panel will suffocate it although online reviews say it’s negligible 🤷‍♂️

Thanks in advance!

I'm in the process of acquiring the following parts for a Fractal Terra build:

  • Asus ROG STRIX B650E-I
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Thermalright AXP-90 X47 Full Copper
  • Corsair 64GB 6000MHz CL30
  • 2 * Samsung 990 Pro 4TB
  • Asus ProArt RTX 4080 Super*

*I might swap this out with a 4070 Ti Super depending on benchmarks/value.

In terms of PSU, my current computer has a Corsair SF600 Platinum. I ordered a Corsair SF1000L Gold for the new build on the following assumptions:

  1. The higher wattage would be more capable of powering my chosen CPU+GPU combo (and then some);
  2. The additional headroom would somewhat "future-proof" the build, so I could update the CPU/GPU in future without much thought;
  3. The larger fan would make the whole thing run a little quieter.

I have since read that these two PSUs basically trade punches on noise levels at various loads (despite the difference in fan size). I have also read a number of Terra owners' recommendations of the case fan under a true SFX power supply. My question, then, is this...

Is 600W enough to power this build safely?

I've consulted a number of online PSU calculators, and they range from <500W (pc-builds.com) to >700W (msi.com), with PSU manufacturers generally recommending much higher wattage than hobby/retail sites. I don't really want to be on the edge of system instability/damage, but if the figures given by manufacturers are purely related to liability and upselling, it could save me some money to keep the SF600.

Why the fuck does it have a riser for sata drives, extra fan headers, and front i/o connections. Why the fuck does it have 4 screws to take off the M.2 cover? Why the fuck are there headers hidden under those VRM heatsinks? Why the fuck are both clear CMOS options hidden under a heatsink? Why the fuck does it have thsoe stupid M.2 clips that always open when your drive is stuck to the thermal pad when the cover is pulled off. When I upgrade to the X3D CPU, I'm switching to the MSI or ASRock one. Fuck this motherboard

Hello all, just finished my new build, only to find out my motherboard is an E-ATX not a regular ATX so I have one panel that is stuck out a bit. Is it a Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master paired with a Ryzen 7900, still figuring out the GPU part as I am not sure which model I will get so for now I am rolling with the iGPU.

Looks like pictures didn't upload as I intended:

Is there a fix to this extra bit sticking out?

At least on the bright side I have a power button in the front now.

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Ghost S1 and it came with 2 large tophats. I had my first attempt at an itx pc put into a NZXT H210. When the ghost arrived I put my hardware in there and everything seems to run fine...

Current CPU is 9900KF

Current GPU is RTX 4070

Current PSU is a corsair sf600

I have a NZXT Kraken X52 put in the top hat and put two 120mm fans inthe bottom hat, both exhausting. Not sure i need the bottom hat but i had the fans and just put it together.

When I run cinebench 2024, my cpu temps jump to like 91, got a score of like 655.

Anyway, I was interested in upgrading parts. Was looking at the 14900K for the CPU and maybe the Asrock or the Asus Z790. Looking into putting an AIO up top again, maybe the EK AIO. Was going to keep the GPU and the PSU.

The machine does a lot: Gaming, software development, music production.

Am I going to have cooling issues here? Should I downgrade the CPU? I don't have custom cabling and I feel like my current psu cables are blocking up a lot of room, possibly affecting airflow? I'll probably get custom cabling when I decide to upgrade.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to get all the needed components for a beefy Velka 3 build and would need a sanity check for the chosen components.

=== already purchased =====

Case: Velka 3 (rev 3)

PSU: ENP-7660B-VK 600W Flex ATX PSU

PCIe Riser: VC-S290G4 290 mm PCIe gen 4

=== planned to purchase ===

CPU Cooler: Thermalright AXP90-X36 + Noctua NF-A9x14 HS-PWM

CPU: Intel Core i5-14500

Mainboard: ASRock Z790M-ITX WiFi

RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5200

GPU: Plait RTX 4060 Ti StormX

(A) Will this fit and stay adequately cool within the Velka 3?

(B) CPUs: Is there a more poreful CPU option i could take, or is the 14500 even too much? I read a lot and some people on the internet did mention that even an AMD Ryzen 7800X3D/5800X3D would be coolable with such little top blower coolers, if undervolted. Given the little thermal headroom I am unsure if I should go for it or not.

(C) Anything else I should change or be concerned about?

Thanks everyone!

There was no sound, so I was checking the chips one by one and found that the blue circled chip had a short circuit. (Gigabyte b450i board)

Do these exist? Completely integrated PC with desktop graphics card? I'm talking laptop style, custom PCB, custom cooler, zero modularity, zero upgrade (aside from ssd), everything soldered, as small and waste free as physically possible. Asus just released a NUC with a mobile rtx 4070. Now scale that up.

Which cooler is better for my case? I have a 5800X3D i'm looking to pair it with. They are both around the same price on Amazon.

Also should I replace the fan regardless of which one i end up getting?

Thanks!

I want to upgrade what i currently use as my homelab (a few pi 4s and a old i5 4460) and I'm looking at the ASUS PRIME N100I-D D4 mostly because power-efficiency and the price (~ 115 euros) but the silent cooling as well.

Wolfgang did a great video on these Aliexpress nas motherboards that might be more suitable for this type of build but they are also more expensive for worse CPUs at least where i live.

Only downside is that its only gigabit Ethernet but my home isn't really equipped for anything faster anyway so its not a huge problem and if i really need it the m.2 E can used with a 2.5 G adapter right?

Getting a PCIE Sata board for more HDDS and basically running it as a NAS/Server running most likely Unraid/Truenas (*arr, Jellyfin maybe a small Minecraft server? Nothing huge at most 5 players probably)

People seem to recommend using more modern i3s or even i5s for these types of builds but the price for CPU + Motherboard usually end up being 3,4 even 5x sometimes and that's without cooling.

Would this be enough or are there any other solutions for a similar price that I've overlooked?

As the title states- The new MODT ITX motherboards from Minisforum fit perfectly into the ghost S1 with a 25mm CPU fan. At first glance it seems like it’s not going to fit but the fan will snap fit in perfectly. The performance is pretty impressive. I’m currently using a 3060ti, but have a 4070 super on the way. The intel 13900hx does use quite a lot of power when compared to the Ryzen bd790i/bd770i boards. It makes for an extremely viable gaming machine while fitting nicely into the S1. If you use custom psu cables the build would be much better as far as fitment. Otherwise you’re going to end up stuffing the wires so the side panel can be mounted. I will try to take some pictures but I just wanted to get the info out there in case someone was speculating on this built.

My friend is selling me their Corsair SF600 Platinum for $90 and I'm planning on using it with an undervolted 5800X3D and RX6800 Gaming X Trio on a X570i Strix along with 2 nvmes and AIO.

Is it enough?

Hello!

I recently downsized my watercooled ATX build into an SSUPD Meshroom S case. I have 2x Mora 420 radiators so I had no need for in-case cooling. I find that the SF1000L is very loud, which is jarring given the rest of my build is completely silent. I have a noctua slim fan on the way to replace the default Corsair fan to help with this, but I wanted to inquire to see if others have had success with this before. I have seen plenty of examples of this on the smaller SF750, but have not seen any with the SF-L Corsair PSUs.
