Original Title: The lovely gentleman I got to sit across the aisle from on a 9PM flight out of O’Hare apparently needed the power of the moon to read his book, even after his wife sitting next to him asked him to turn the brightness down

Original Title: I've been on Vyvanse for my adhd and Temazapam to help me sleep for 2 years and finally being a somewhat functional person.. I already pay $140 to $377 a month for Vyvanse WITH insurance. Insurance just decided not to cover more than 15 Temazapam pills a month. American Healthcare is a joke.

So, I have this cat, Whiskers. Cute, fluffy, slightly evil. He’s obsessed with knocking my water glass off the nightstand like it’s his personal life mission.

Enter: Me. Genius human with a degree in engineering. I decided to 3D print a special cup holder that clamps to the nightstand and securely holds the glass. Problem solved.

Or so I thought.

Last night, I woke up to the sound of something rattling. I squint into the dark, and there’s Whiskers. He’s sitting next to the cup holder, pawing at the water glass like it’s a puzzle. After a few moments of intense concentration, the little menace used his teeth to lift the entire glass out of the holder and proceeded to dump it on the floor, all while maintaining eye contact.

I’m now wondering if I should hand over my degree, build him a tiny diploma, and rename him Professor Whiskers.

TL;DR: I tried to out-engineer my cat. My cat engineered revenge.

My tub spout was leaking. I was pretty sure it was just a bad valve cartridge in one of the tub handles (we had had a similar problem a couple years back) and while I was pretty sure it was an easy fix, I didn't have the part handy and my wife (who was there the last time a plumber fixed the issue) had misunderstood the complexity of the job he did and had suggested the plumber had used a special tool to access a hard to reach area of the tub.

The prior plumber (who charged $120 for the work last time) was no longer available, so I called a plumber that had been recommended. I let them know what we believed to be the problem, gave them the part number that was used to fix the problem last time, and waited. The guy showed up, claimed the part was special order (despite the fact that a simple search showed that Home Depot just down the street had 8 in stock for $14 each) and then proceeded to quote me $970 for replacing it. (With a 2 day wait for the part to ship).

Thankfully, I knew what the fix had cost before and had used the time to google videos of the replacement process (which uses common tools and takes roughly 5 minutes to do). Armed with this info, I confronted the guy on the pricing and he offered some bs about the cost being mostly about the warranty, and that it might take 1-3 hours of work because he has to be careful not to break the part when installing and that he might have to test it afterward. I told him he was a crook and to take his "consultation fee" and get out.

I then drove to Home Depot and bought the part. 10 minutes after I got home it was installed and the tub was no longer leaking. I am convinced he saw someone who he assumed was totally clueless about home repair and just figured he'd take me for all he could. It's gotten really hard to find tradesmen in my area that aren't just looking to rip you off.

I’m a Police officer and yesterday I was called to a heated argument at a car wash.

Upon arrival I found that a car wash employee had crashed an elderly man’s car, and they were refusing to give him his keys back until he paid for the wash.

I exchanged insurance details between them and told them they had to give him his keys back so he could have his car towed. They refused.

After a 20 minute discussion and numerous attempts to solve it like adults, the employee had to be placed under arrest for larceny before he finally gave this poor man his keys back.

The part that infuriated me is the audacity to expect payment after totalling this man’s car. Even the tow truck driver attempted to justify it by saying “Well he still needs to be paid for his time”..

Being a cop tests your faith in humanity everyday but this one just really left a bad taste in my mouth. In all my years this is the first time I’ve ever actually lost my cool and yelled at someone.

Ultimately they weren’t paid and they were told they will have to sue him civilly because Im not forcing him to pay.

Maybe I’m wrong and let my personal ethics sway me, so I’m curious to hear other people’s thoughts
