welcome to the weekly how's your week going thread

this thread is a pretty straightforward and relaxed one for giving updates on how your week is going and chat like that. nothing special

on my front: last week was total chaos, so hoping for things to calm down this week because it is completely fucking up my groove; unfortunately reddit is not making that easy. this is also not ideally timed for my emotional state. anyways, read book 20 for the year (America City by Chris Beckett). on book 21. maybe i'll marathon through a bunch of these in between keeping the site from being on fire

I've had great fun working through Crafting Interpreters (in Haskell and Zig, which were both new to me), and discovering a lot of new music (sophie, underscores, xiu xiu, and more). Other than that, life's been rough, but I'm lucky to have quite a bit of free time recently at least.

My little boy is just at the tail end of Chickenpox… so that has made it a tough week with long sleepless nights (had to be cuddled all night long) and unhappy days. Thankfully he’s a lot better now.

On the plus side, it has been nice having some solo dad time while mum worked and as he started feeling better we’ve been having lots of fun running around the house and playing in the garden.

Now I’ve just got to get caught up with work.. of course it suddenly gets really busy just as I had to take last minute leave!

I stayed at an Airbnb for a friend's bday last night and had a great time singing along to Road to El Dorado (and kept everyone up with my snoring). I'm back home, cleaning myself and the apartment and will shortly be taking a Tears of the Kingdom break.

I'm from Lemmy.ml and replying to this! Isn't federation great?

...my week is going well, btw. Getting some Qdoba today for lunch with the bf.

Finished work early so I'm happy. It's been a tough week as my chronic back/shoulder pain has been acting up. Thankfully work has been relatively relaxing and got a surprising amount of positive feedback from the directors. What that says for my performance when I'm not in agonising pain I'm not sure!

Going to my sister's to watch her cat for the weekend, should be chilled. I intend to drink the pain away as my meds aren't working.

Endless and pointless grind at work.

At home I bought a used 125-gallon aquarium 6 months ago that's just sitting empty. I need to reseal it, but I'm too scared to screw it up because I've never done this before. I also need to fix the stand because the one that came with it is cracked and definitely won't hold the weight when it's full of water. But once again I've never done this so it's just sitting there.

I'm a master procrastinator.

Might be a dad. Been trying for ~2 years and sadly went through two miscarriages. We told the parents but no one else as we want to keep it a surprise. we got another positive test yesterday and are being cautiously optimistic.. it's exciting, but these last two times have been hard on us.

If you know me IRL, STFU until I say something. 🤣

I was just approved in the community, so still exploring.

My university exams are going on so I have been busy with that and only 6 days left before my college life ends (temporarily at least) and it’s daunting for me how adult corporate life would be. I am already making a list of things to do in vacations like joining a gym, starting to read a book that was pending since past several months(any readers of Red Rising by Pierce Brown here??), learning guitar and so on…

I am over all the place, but happy.

Oh man I remember that feeling.

Every time my life has moved on to the next phase things have just gotten better. That doesn’t mean there aren’t bumps (sometime serious giant bumps) along the way or the stuff that came before wasn’t great too but I feel that each new part of my life just enhanced everything that came before. This is a feeling that I know is shared by most people I know too.

I hope that’s the same for you and that everything goes well as you move into “adult corporate life”. Try to turn that daunting feeling into excitement as the new bit starts!

Ever since I took on a new role at work, I've been busy attending more meetings with Very Important People than before. For someone like me who prefers not have the attention of Very Important People, it's nerve-wracking.

Think I'll have to share in calling this week total chaos as the last few days I've been moving across the country to pursue an internship at NASA. It'll be my first week at work there so here's hoping it goes well. I also have a class I'm currently taking with an exam tomorrow. Very stressful indeed.

idk, i've been stuck between a rock and a hard place for awhile but this weeks been rougher than usual. Weirdly I'm feeling hopeful for the future though, maybe it has to get worse before it gets better.

Oof I’ve hit the under two week deadline for my final portfolio in school and I’m permastressed. I’ve been finding myself spending hours playing The Long Dark as the unforgiving canadian wilderness is easier than just working on my school work 🫠

I'm doing pretty great. Spent all weekend volunteering at pride events and meeting lots of amazing people. Been having fun hanging around beehaw too so that's been a positive as well 😊

I've had better weeks. One of my guinea pigs who has been sick for a while got sick enough that she had to be put down, with the added bonus that this became obvious about 15 minutes before I had to go meet my new landlord to pick up the keys to my new apartment. On the plus side, moving into the new apartment has been easy, I thought I would need to do a lot of back and forth to move stuff before the movers come to take the big things, but seems like that's mostly done. Also, my other guinea pig is doing well despite the loss of her friend, so that is good also.

I'm really sorry about your guinea pig. It's always tough losing a pet.

I'm waging a losing war against the squirrels for my flower bed. So far, I have saturated the area with Irish Spring soap shreds and sprayed a mix of Repel All/Tobasco sauce on everything. The smell is nauseating.

Does anyone know if those sonic repellant machines actually work?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Can’t comment for squirrels but the sonic repellant worked really well for cats that had been doing their business at the bottom of the garden. Squirrels are basically small cats right?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I hope so. They are going after my potted plants now.
