MODERATORS

I got into podcasts recently. I know about the official beyond the grid, how is it? Do you have recommandations about others?

Haven’t seen the EngineBraking podcast mentioned. It’s 2 ex-F1 staff (performance/sim engineer and something in IT systems) and they always have good analysis.

They have a RB bias, but they’re aware of it and regularly call it out, as well as trying to pick a new team each week to follow.

I also don’t hate the Pitstop podcast, which is 2 guys who got into F1 just over a season ago. It’s interesting to hear things from a completely new fans perspective. They also have really good guest interviews with the lesser known people of F1. They are new to the sport and definitely have some opinions that will make any long time watcher cringe, but they’re fun to listen to.

EngineBraking is great. Good mix of comedy and actual practical F1 knowledge.

P1 with Matt And Tommy is personal favourite, but there are many others. I suggest just try different ones unti and see what works for you.

Beyond the grid is good. I recommend Bobby kubica episode.

+1 for Missed Apex if you are looking for more mature, technical discussions with a bit of humor mixed in.

Used to be a huge fan, but I felt the negativity crept in too much. I don’t mind being pro Lewis at all, but the hate towards Max sometimes is too much. They make it personal. Production is great though, if you are in to that.

Same, not even a Max fan but the hate got to be too much for my taste.

Interesting, I never got that feeling. They are generally pretty upfront about their biases so it never bothered me I guess.

They might have toned it down a bit, can’t tell. But especially end 2021/2022 it got a bit out of hand (emotions ran high, i get that. Just didn’t need the hate in my podfeed).

Still love their sessions with Joe Saward, that man is a legend.

They have toned it down. Post 2021 season ending they received a lot of flak and have owned up to it. This is why they bring in a Dutch guest Jules Seegers often to even the tides (even though he isn't a die hard Max fan).

I started listening to them at the start of the 2022 season and personally don't feel that they have any hate towards Max. It's just that if you aren't a Verstappen fan it's hard to get excited about his performance when he wins every race.

Read back Philpot’s twitter feed from around that period. Not just towards Max, but the tone he hit in regards to Masi was also way over the top for me. Put them in the same bin as the toxic twitter environment for me.

But don’t want to make it too negative from my end either, they did great in the past and am sure they are back to their best again. So if that’s the case They are absolutely a good tip to listen to.

I'm personally a fan of P1 with Matt and Tommy. Used to listen to their stuff when they were with WTF1 and followed them to P1 when they left.

Shift+F1 is welcoming for newcomers and I’d second anyone recommending Missed Apex.

I mostly listen to Shift+F1 and the BBC post race. The BBC show has gotten a lot less good lately but it's still a pretty tight review of the race, usually 30-50 min. They lost Jennie Gow (she had a stroke in January) and she really carried the show.

If you had a gun to your head and had to choose just one, which would you go for?

DNF podcast. Pretty witty and not too long.

Dax Shepard is a huge F1 nerd and has a podcast https://armchairexpertpod.com/eff-won-with-drs

Outlap f1 is great for American fans that appreciate other Americans who have been with the sport prior to DtS.

Grid Penalty is great for people who just appreciate a less serious look at the sport.

I personally listen to Missed apex, Sky Sports F1 Podcast, Chequered Flag and P1 with Matt and Tommy

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm a big fan of BBC Radio 5 Live's F1 Chequered Flag podcast.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

+1, especially when Jolyon Palmer is on. He's also great on the F1TV feed when he occasionally does commentary.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The Donut Racing Show is pretty good. It's a little silly at times but they have started putting out weekly shows now. On non-race weeks they'll do shows on history or F1 politics.

I like semi-serious podcasts. Shift F1 is great for that

Beyond the grid is good. I recommend Bobby kubica episode.
