A micro reactor, which is really cool.

This is really cool, but not exactly abnormal. "Nuclear submarines" already have them

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Oh sure they can have one but I can't 🙄

Very interesting and very cool. Another very interesting thing here is the company building/running the small reactor is Oklo. Oklo is co founded by Sam Altman, which is the CEO of OpenAI, the company that made ChatGPT. This guy may be a household name in the next few years. Oklo going public via SPAC merger in 2024.

Why not be trendy and open a coal mine? They're all the rage nowadays

[–] sorghum 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In Germany yes? Shut down all nuclear power plants, level towns for a coal mine, right?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Mmm, black lung

How are people missing the obvious satire

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Yea, for you numbnuts who think I'm pushing for coal, get fucking real

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

The base already uses a coal/oil plant for 33 megawatts of power. The micro nuclear reactor would augment 5 megawatts to start, with expectations to expand once up and running.
