On this day in 1945, Hồ Chí Minh announced the Proclamation of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam to a crowd of thousands at the Ba Đình flower garden (now Ba Đình Square).

The Proclamation led directly to war with France, which concluded in the country being divided between French and self-rule at the 17th parallel. Vietnam would not achieve a unified, independent rule until 1976.

The Proclamation quoted heavily from the American Declaration of Independence and was vehemently critical of French rule. An excerpt reads:

"'All men are created equal. They are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among them are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.' This immortal statement was made in the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America in 1776. In a broader sense, this means: All the peoples on the earth are equal from birth, all the peoples have a right to live, to be happy and free.

...Nevertheless, for more than eighty years, the French imperialists, abusing the standard of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, have violated our Fatherland and oppressed our fellow-citizens. They have acted contrary to the ideals of humanity and justice. In the field of politics, they have deprived our people of every democratic liberty...They have built more prisons than schools. They have mercilessly slain our patriots; they have drowned our uprisings in rivers of blood...They have robbed us of our rice fields, our mines, our forests, and our raw materials.

For these reasons, we, members of the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, solemnly declare to the world that Vietnam has the right to be a free and independent country - and in fact is so already. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to mobilize all their physical and mental strength, to sacrifice their lives and property in order to safeguard their independence and liberty."

I did 132 minutes in multiple sets on my rowing machine. Not only is that an extremely long time for me - I used a higher setting so my Apollo's belt and each side of it are a bit sore.

Apollo's belt

The Apollo's belt, also known as Adonis belt, or iliac furrows, is a part of the human anatomy referring to the two shallow grooves of the human abdomen running from the iliac crest (hip bone) to the pubis.

It doesn't feel like muscle soreness. It's a weird feeling that feels like what I imagine a serious lower intestine problem would feel like.

Burning Man sounds like the perfect spot for a nuclear bomb test.

I'm enjoying the One Piece live adaption a lot but it really suffers from the washed out color tone.

I really enjoyed the recent Twisted Metal adaption and it was wild how vibrant the colors were in that.

guy whose attention flits between the tv and the phone and he keeps turning the volume up on whichever has his attention in the moment

I love this one because it sounds like he only turns the volume up and never down until everything is max volume

My neighbours are moving out of their apartment and they were at it until after midnight and before dawn. Loud arguing about how to pack stuff. This building's front apartment doors reverberate like crazy through the halls. So whenever they bring stuff out there's a SLAM as the door automatically closes.

I'm going to celebrate my first paycheque at my new job by checking out the used-clothing stores in a nearby city. A cousin who now lives there for university tells me there's a few with good selections of lightly used cowboy boots. I want to pick up a pair for a fetish outfit idea.

No context Twitter

I have never directed theater. I am not a rabbi, but I am Jewish. And I am definitely not 5 ft. 7. Hope this clears things up and that these other Lisas are thriving in the theater and the rabbinate respectively.

What shape do flat earthers believe other planets are? Like if they took a telescope and looked at mars would they say that that's a flat disc, or would they claim that MARS is round but EARTH is flat?

Anybody played or seen Statfield yet? Feels like every Bethesda game gets good reviews when it comes out, then everyone hates it for a few years, then everyone decides its just okay. I'm sure I'll play it in a few years when it's heavily discounted and includes all the DLC.

Im playing Starfield. I really like it. That said its a bethesda ass bethesda game. If you dont like Skryrim or Fallout 4 I doubt you will enjoy Starfield. I really enjoy bethesda style games since the days of Morrowind so Starfield really appeals to me on a lizard brain level even with all its flaws. Also a couple of things I noticed in my short play time.

-The game is not very great in terms of performance. I have a RTX 3080 and it runs only at 60-70 fps at medium/high settings on 1080p. (Lower fps in busy areas) Meaning if you have a weaker gpu...like many people do, the framerate is gonna be mediocre at best. If not bad in some areas.

-The world is not seamless. There is a lot of (short) loading screens. Doesnt bother me but I know some people like "real" open worlds like in Skyrim etc.

-If you want to play the game modded I would absolutely recommend to wait 1 year or at least 6 months or so. Im sure the modding scene for this is gonna be huge but its gonna be much more evolved in a year or two.

  • Final note. Its the least buggy game bethesda has released so far. Had 0 bugs in the time I played.

Can anyone recommend a single serve blender that isn't terrible? I've gotten two but they won't blend ice cubes or frozen fruit very well without me having to shake them.

I thought about posting other Jimmy Buffet songs as a tribute, but it seems like they mostly suck. Margaritaville is a great song because the singer is heartbroken and miserable, and there's an ironic contrast between his emotional state and the gorgeous tropical resort where he's getting completely wasted to forget about it. I tried listening to Cheeseburger in Paradise, and it's just about some sloppy drunk who really wants a cheeseburger. None of the Margaritaville magic is there.

Anyway RIP to a boomer who wrote at least one really killer song.
