On this day in 1945, Hồ Chí Minh announced the Proclamation of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam to a crowd of thousands at the Ba Đình flower garden (now Ba Đình Square).

The Proclamation led directly to war with France, which concluded in the country being divided between French and self-rule at the 17th parallel. Vietnam would not achieve a unified, independent rule until 1976.

The Proclamation quoted heavily from the American Declaration of Independence and was vehemently critical of French rule. An excerpt reads:

"'All men are created equal. They are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among them are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.' This immortal statement was made in the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America in 1776. In a broader sense, this means: All the peoples on the earth are equal from birth, all the peoples have a right to live, to be happy and free.

...Nevertheless, for more than eighty years, the French imperialists, abusing the standard of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, have violated our Fatherland and oppressed our fellow-citizens. They have acted contrary to the ideals of humanity and justice. In the field of politics, they have deprived our people of every democratic liberty...They have built more prisons than schools. They have mercilessly slain our patriots; they have drowned our uprisings in rivers of blood...They have robbed us of our rice fields, our mines, our forests, and our raw materials.

For these reasons, we, members of the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, solemnly declare to the world that Vietnam has the right to be a free and independent country - and in fact is so already. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to mobilize all their physical and mental strength, to sacrifice their lives and property in order to safeguard their independence and liberty."

Apparently it's about a demon who can't posses this guy so he has to do it the old-fashioned way: making him fall in love with him

Which to me just sounds like the author wanted to write about a relationship featuring a tough evil guy and a cute twink, but hey, if it gets you past the censors

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to being posessed by a tough evil guy.

Dry rubbed my first barbecue pork ribs today with some salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder, cumin, chipotle cinnamon seasoning, mesquite barbecue seasoning, a shitload of paprika, some cayenne even though the chef told me not to, chili powder, and some fresh ground dried mustard.

I was explicitly told not to put any sugar in it so don't @ me about that but otherwise that was just me freestylin' with them spices

Everybody fuckin loved em

I've been told that the rub was great and the sauce was too sweet (i didn't make the sauce, that was the chef, lol, i win)

Made 120 pounds of those fuckers

Watched my friend play the opening of Baldur's Gate 3, the first 1-2 hours or so and I'm not gonna lie it seems incredibly generic. Like, this is what I'd get if I asked ChatGPT to create a fantasy world.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

I assume the game gets more interesting when it becomes more about the actual characters but wow that opening was unimpressive. If I didn't hear so much praise for the game I would probably refund it after that.

I went to a pro jam last night, it was a lot of fun. Saw a bunch of great musicians. Played the last song with a djembe player and I think it went mostly great. I was so nervous though, all my local heroes were there x.x

Saw a bunch of music yesterday, this scene can make me feel so lonely. Free concerts all day but barely had people to hang with ugh.

Also some dummy rear ended me, everything is fine but i hate fucking cars and that every idiot gets to drive a literal death machine

Last day of festival.

Yesterday's Florance and the machine was fucking great. Aphex twin was also cool.

I'm so excited for arcade fire today cat-vibing sicko-jammin

Under Communism, copyright will be abolished, and popular minecraft youtuber "Ethoslab" will make montages using notebook covers of popular songs again without fear of copyright strikes.

Well Mr. Softie is certainly acting himself. Bugging me for cheese and butter in my mac and cheese and also being very loving. Still worried though as I haven't seen him eat since last night which he threw up.

You think differently when you're high but I bet not everyone thinks differently the same. Like do you reckon conservatives are pretty chill when high or do they somehow manage to taint and perverse and mayo up being high?

Ascendance of a Bookworm (woman who loves books is reborn as a medieval peasant, must Connecticut Yankee her way back to having books)

Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady (the revolution is bourgeois but the girls are lesbian)

Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement (woman gains the ability to freely isekai back and forth between isekai world and her own, sets up a shop selling dollar store shit for gold there. Much less focused on money than the title would suggest)

I try to remind myself that most theology isn't as incredibly stressful as most American christian theology but it does not work. My amygdala is overdeveloped and I lead a high tension existence

"Nurse, give me 70 CCs mirth, Stat!"

"But Doctor, the patient's jouissance is already elevated, shouldn--"

"We can explore the spectrum of buoyant feelings later - I know a good jazz club, great acoustics - but I asked for mirth. Quickly Nurse, he's developing a rictus!"

"You think you know better than me, hotshot? I've attended this procedure a hundred times - he needs the gentle milk of human kindness. All this excitement overwhelms his psyche."

"Genivieve, you should know better than anyone that nothing is softer than to look upon the terrible lightness of our predicament and to delight in its motion, untroubled and in love."

". . . 70 CCs mirth, Doctor. But you must know this is only buying time. One cannot build peace on a balloon unmoored."

"Don't we both know it well. Ah! Good, his smiles per minute are stabilizing. Another day . . . So Barnes', 8 o'clock?"

"Humor doesn't suit you, Timur. I'll see you at Ellison's. Don't wear that dreadful suit this time."

What shape do flat earthers believe other planets are? Like if they took a telescope and looked at mars would they say that that's a flat disc, or would they claim that MARS is round but EARTH is flat?
