Can confirm. Something I couldn't admit to on Reddit but idgaf here: am an Amazon employee. Not a driver or FC worker either, white collar desk jockey. Internally Amazon is forcing all departments to come up with at least 250k each in cost savings by years end all in an effort to pad their bottom fucking line (and you better believe not a single one of us is going to see a goddamn dime of those savings). All the while still making profit every quarter but telling employees they don't consider inflation when doing annual raises and making us do the work of multiple people. It's fucked up the sheer amount of greed that corporations are going through right now basically cannibalizing themselves to earn more profit every quarter.

Amazon is the biggest shitshow I've ever seen.

AWS is pretty awesome though, to the extent that the greater Amazon doesn't fuck with em. You should try switching over.

I'm savvy enough to know that automatic renewal is activated whenever you accept those "2 days of prime, free!" offers when you're checking out, but the messages don't mention that, and Amazon is experienced enough to know that some people won't intuit it, so it's obviously a deliberate scam.

Its built into the subscription model. I know, because I've worked at a company that implemented one and I fought tooth and nail for them to follow their company guidelines of transparency. They never did

The surprise of no one.

It also said Amazon put customers seeking to cancel through a cumbersome "four-page, six-click, fifteen option" process, which the FTC said was known internally as "Iliad" in a nod to the Greek epic about the "long, arduous Trojan War".

At least we get to live in a dystopian hellscape that respects the classics.

Kinda fitting that they went for the Iliad and not the Odyssey. And by fitting, I mean fitting with the intelligence level of the average MBA.

The Odyssey was actually about a long, arduous journey. The Iliad was just like, a few months of the Trojan War, and it was action-packed. Dumb fucks never read either of them, though.

Amazon and every other online subscription not offered through the Apple App Store.

Why apple in particular?

Android is just as easy, you just open the play store first instead of settings
