Have just ordered the 7800x3D for my SFF build that will go in a fractal design terra case.

After ordering I realise that the 7900x is reduced in price, that it's actually cheaper than the 7800x3D. For the kind of work I do with my PC it's a no brsiner, the 7900x would be the much better choice on specs alone.

What I want to ask is how much of a world of hurt is attempting to run this higher wattage, hotter running CPU in a small case that will rely solely on a low profile axp120-x67 CPU fan and a single exhaust fan. Stability is my overriding factor, I'd sooner just take the potential performance hit for a more stable experience...and I do think that either CPU will be sufficient.

I just think when I'm processing lots of data when multitasking, running vms in a lab environment - the extra cores are gonna be beneficial. I don't play many games.

Just most importantly, I don't want to deal with throttling or any stability issues. I think probably going full 170w is probably a heat problem too far for the cooling setup I'll be using, but there's no exact science to read when googling ๐Ÿค”
