This reminds me of a video I can't find. As I remember it, it was a bunch of Anglos using VR to "experience" what it's like for children working in mines in Africa. No surprise, most of them reacted badly and/or tapped out.
Then at the end they asked the people what they thought VR should be developed, could make people more empathetic, etc. and they all were in agreement. Then it turns out the kids were mining materials for tech components like the VR goggles and the people were still in agreement.
