TIL gerrymandering is named after the 1812 MA governor Elbridge Gerry, whose name is pronounced with a hard "G", disapproved of the district redrawing, and wasn't the first person to redraw districts (kbin.social)

Although Gerry was unhappy about the highly partisan districting (according to his son-in-law, he thought it "highly disagreeable"), he signed the legislation.

Well he signed it, couldn't be too unhappy about it. It's one thing to (allegedly) be opposed to something and another to actually take some steps to rectify the situation.
