Right now the default sort for threads is "Hot". Can I change the default somehow? I don't know if the option exists or if I'm blind, I can't find it anyhow.

Hi all. I've been having some problems keeping fedia.io running - at the moment, either the message workers or the php web server processes are dying after an hour or so and I have to restart everything. I have been working with the mbin team and installed some updates that we hoped would fix the problems, but no luck. I am going to work on a cron job to automatically restart things once an hour. The down side, is that you'll likely see some error 500's if you happen to hit it when the processes are restarting, but it should happen quickly and refreshing the page should make it work again.

As the linked post demonstrates, if you enter a link like this:

[mail2tor](mail2torjgmxgexntbrmhvgluavhj7ouul5yar6ylbvjkxwqf6ixkwyd.onion)

mbin thinks it’s something else. Indeed it’s not a URL due to the lacking ‘scheme://’, but it’s bizarre what it does with the links.

Since SSL is not generally needed for onions, every link would require some effort to know whether it should have a scheme of http:// or https://. Mbin should just pick one of those schemes arbitrarily.. certainly not whatever it’s doing at the moment.

My ISP is Orange Poland

  • It's GSM 4G/5G branch of Orange I use on my cellphone.

I can open literally any other site, including other kbin/mbin/lemmy instances.

It's probably already on your radar but I didn't see a thread* about it so I figured I would mention it.

Seen 502 when trying to load the main page, and on occasion when viewing my feed on mobile web the page would transition to a 503 or 504 error seemingly without my input.

Shortly after upgrading to Mbin 1.7.1-rc1, php ran out of workers. I dramatically increased the limit. It isn’t clear to me why that happened and if it’s related to the upgrade or just coincidental. My intuition is that it’s related, but I have no evidence.

Hello everyone. I just upgraded fedia.io to mbin 1.7.1-rc1. One of the notable changes is that mbin is deprecating mercure, which is the component that provided streaming updates. As such, you will have to refresh the web page to see new posts and comments.

I tried to DM a Lemmy user. This URL was associated to the mail icon:

https://fedia.io/u/@[email protected]/message

That gives a 403 forbidden. I use Tor but neither fedia nor discuss.tchncs.de are tor-hostile. So I doubt Tor is related.

I have to say apart from the above issue, fedia has been working smoothly lately. I’m glad the internal server errors that plagued the system have apparently been resolved AFAICT.

Where does it end up and who can see it? Do they get federated?

Sorry if this is not the place to ask, but I was wondering what's the reasoning behind favorites being visible and reduces invisible.

One more question. Is there an option to search within a magazine?

If this is not the right magazine for this kind of questions, pls tell me where to post them.

Thanks!

The (relatively new) server that Fedia.io was running on, a Hetzner AX 162-R, died overnight. Hetzner tells me that the main board failed and had to be replaced. In the process of repairing, the raid set got corrupted and would no longer boot.

Every single AX 162 (R or M) I’ve rented from Hetzner has failed now at least once. This was the last one I had. It was on my to do list to move fedia.io to a Dell server with the same specs. I knew this was going to happen, but I didn’t get it done in time.

For those of you who have been following along, Fedia has been cursed from the beginning. The kbin software was a god damned disaster, and very fortunately the mbin team spent an incredible amount of time and patience to help me sort out the many problems, nearly all of which are fixed now.

Except for the random occurrences where federation breaks due to an as-yet-unknown bug, the main stability issue has been hardware. I have had excellent luck with Hetzner’s Dell servers, so I am hopeful that is now fixed as well. The challenge is that the Dell server is quite expensive ($350 per month) so I will be looking to find a more cost effective way to host fedia.io, given the very small number of active users.

Hello everyone,

I have long been a moderator over at Kbin and Lemmy, been moderating many huge communities such as m/AskKbin and more there but ever since Kbin's downward trend (slow development, service being down regularly) and attempting to distance myself from Lemmy (thanks to it's controversial developers I personally don't want to be affiliated with or contribute towards), I have been looking to move to Mbin, especially thanks to how community-involved the development is here, and thankfully after a while fedia.io seems to have opened back it's signups (hence I'm here).

I am looking to move all my future contributions and communities I have maintained and contributed towards so far here to Mbin from Kbin and Lemmy. To start with, I am planning on bringing m/AskMbin, successor to AskKbin and I was wondering if the community would be interested in collaborating and possibly coming up with a mascot for Mbin?

I believe Mbin already has an icon/logo that is of a Triangle shape, perhaps a mascot similar to that?

If anyone is interested feel free to get in touch, I would be interested in working together to create and use community icons for my communities with the mascot.

First of all, sorry if this magazine is not the correct place for such questions.

I "migrated" my small community over from kbin.social since, well, it's dead. The community is Greece (https://fedia.io/m/Greece) and users from other instances such as lemmy.world etc don't seem able to see any of my posts.

For example: https://lemmy.world/c/[email protected]

Any ideas for this?

It has been a year since I ditched the big “/r”. I feel this is community, better by far. While concentrated far more specifically, The heart is centered upon all silly, if i cannot laugh at me, what good am i to humanity

just happy to have seen these several communities emerge no fabled utopia, but better than threads /s

Hi, it appears that federation is down on Fedia. I haven't seen any new posts all day. Anyone else seeing the same thing?

23

I'm coming from kbin. It used to be that when I blocked an instance, I wouldn't see any posts or comments from users on that instance.

Here, I blocked an instance, and I still see comments from users from that instance. Is it possible to change this and make so that their posts/comments are hidden?

I recently joined fedia and was unsure what local magazines I should join I figured Fedia Discussions would be a good place to start.

I will be rehoming fedia.io to a less expensive server the afternoon of July 1 - exact timing is TBD. Downtime should last about 2 hours. The current server is quite expensive and donations are dwindling, which is normally ok, but I am losing my job and have to be a bit more frugal.
