Warner Bros. Discovery appears to have backed down from its plans to delist more than a dozen games published by its Adult Swim Games label from Steam and digital console stores. WBD now plans to transfer ownership of some of those games back to the indie devs that made them, according to developers who would have been affected by the planned delistings.

Plans to delist the Adult Swim Games catalog from digital stores — or “retire” them, as Warner Bros. Discovery had worded it — became public in March and were widely criticized as a cold corporate move that could make some indie games unavailable to purchase. That strong criticism appears to have played a part in WBD’s revised plan to transfer ownership of the games back to their creators.

News of WBD’s policy reversal was first revealed by developer Owen Deery, who is behind puzzle-adventure game Small Radios Big Televisions, which was originally published by Adult Swim Games in 2016. (Deery also broke the news of WBD’s original plan to “retire” Adult Swim titles back in March.) On the social media platform X, Deery wrote that Small Radios Big Televisions “will not be ‘retired’,” despite previous communication from WBD that it would be. “Ownership and store listings will return to me,” Deery said.

Developer Landon Podbielski said that his multiplayer platform shooter Duck Game, another Adult Swim Games-published release threatened with delisting, will also be reverted to its creator. “The game is being returned to Corptron along with its store pages on all platforms,” Podbielski said on X. “It’s not going anywhere.”

Other developers whose games were published by Adult Swim Games confirmed to Polygon that they’ve received similar communication from Warner Bros. Discovery, and will have their titles transferred back to them rather than be delisted. WBD told developers it “heard the feedback and concerns regarding the retirement of titles published under Adult Swim Games,” one developer said in an email to Polygon.

But other developers who had their work published by Adult Swim Games say they’re still waiting to hear from Warner Bros. Discovery. Two developers Polygon spoke to say they never received the original messaging from WBD back in March, and still haven’t heard from the company, despite multiple attempts to contact representatives there. Polygon has reached out to Warner Bros. Discovery for comment and will update when the company responds.

The creator of the rejected Adult Swim cartoon Pibby and Friends: Apocalypse has uploaded storyboards of the edgy Cartoon Network crossover.

Last October, Dodge Greenley, the creator behind Pibby and Friends: Apocalypse, revealed that Adult Swim has yet to pick up the pilot for the edgy Cartoon Network crossover and likely never will. Now, Greenley has uploaded storyboards from the pilot.

On Greenley's portfolio website, storyboards for the pilot of Pibby and Friends: Apocalypse were uploaded. Storyboards for Greenley's previous animated works like Jellystone! and Tig n' Seek are also available. The Pibby pilot consists of 290 pages, detailing Pibby's pre-school homeworld being destroyed by an evil menace known as the "Glitch." Outside the initial teaser, this is the closest fans have gotten to seeing how Pibby would have unfolded as a show.

“Me and my mate Tom King were at the pub talking shit. He told me about this job he was doing for Adult Swim and also mentioned they take pitches for short animated films that are character and story driven. Tom passed on the email so I emailed the guy. I didn’t really expect a reply or anything though. I’ve sent Brain Dead like ten emails saying hi. No one ever replies but it’s honestly like who cares it’s not like anyone ever finds out about it.”

In this case, Adult Swim did pick up the email and Best Friend Style was born. The short is for Adult Swim’s Smalls section, which are typically character and story-driven shorts that might get the chance of being developed into a full TV series. It follows two friends waiting around in a weird alleyway trying to get into a nightclub called Cool Club with a pair of fake IDs. “It’s something that has been bouncing around in my head for years now,” says Paul. “I have hundreds of memories of sneaking into pubs and getting kicked out of clubs as an underaged kid using my brother’s licence. Best Friend Style is episode one in a 15-episode story-arc type thing.”

Over the last week, video game developers who worked with Adult Swim on both original games and franchise tie-ins for shows like Rick and Morty have reportedly been contacted by Warner Bros. Discovery representatives, who informed the artists that their work will be delisted from all platforms and marketplaces “within 60 days.” Beginning in May, every Adult Swim game will be inaccessible to anyone who doesn’t already own a copy – so, basically, download Pocket Mortys while you still can.

Written by series producer Josie Campbell and drawn by Pablo M. Collar, the My Adventures with Superman comic will fill in the gap between seasons 1 and 2

My Adventures with Superman debuted on Adult Swim in July of 2023. After a successful first go-around, the show was renewed for a season 2 in September of the same year (as reported by Deadline). It stars Jack Quaid as Clark Kent, Alice Lee as Lois Lane, and Ishmel Sahid as Jimmy Olsen. A brighter, more Silver Age take on the Daily Planet crew, My Adventures with Superman featured writing by Josie Campbell, who will also write the comic adaptation.

"This story is one we actually talked about in the writers room, but we didn’t have space for it in season one,” says Campbell, who is also a producer on the show. “So get ready for romance, comedy, super-powers, Jimmy Olsen talking a lot about how he’s super-rich now, and all the goodness of the show bundled into this action-packed miniseries."

But just what will the story be about? Well, details are scant in the press release DC sent out on March 6, but we do know that the comic will "[pick] up from the explosive end of season one, serving as a bridge to the highly anticipated season two."

Also revealed in the press release, and perhaps most exciting for regular DC comic readers, is the fact that artist Pablo M. Collar will be providing the art. The pencil behind standouts like DC’s Are You Afraid of Darkseid, DC’s Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun, and more, Collar brings heaps of experience from all over the DCU into My Adventures with Superman.

"Superman has always been the reference and the symbol of all that’s good in us," says Collar, who jumped at the chance to work on the comic, "and being part of something like this is a dream come true, and the whole team will give it our best."

My Adventures with Superman #1 heads to comic shops June 4, 2024. You can stream the first season of the show now on Max.

Warner Bros. has been cancelling a number of its projects, including films like Batgirl and Coyote vs Acme. However, it seems the company is trying to erase more than just its movies, as a number of developers have spoken out.

Warner Bros. has begun the process of delisting games that were published under Adult Swim Games, which has a number of games on Steam and PlayStation. Two developers with games published by Adult Swim, have come forward to say that Warner Bros. has contacted them about removing their games.

Fire Face, the developer behind Small Radios Big Televisions, was informed that the game would be delisted in 60 days. Owen Deery, the sole developer and owner of Fire Face, has made the game free to download from his website, but each developer can decide whether to do the same.

Speaking to Games Developer, Deery called the decision "depressing". He states that Warner Bros. blamed "internal business changes" for the decision without giving much explanation.

Another developer has also spoken out, claiming they received a very similar message from Warner Bros. Matt Kain Lewandowski, who is one half of the duo that created Fist Puncher, has said that Warner Bros. declined to transfer ownership of the Steam page to them in order to keep the game visible.

He said: "This is incredibly disappointing. It seems like more and more the video game industry is filled with people that don't like and don't care about video games. All that to say, buy physical games, make back-ups, help preserve our awesome industry and art form."

So far these are the only two developers that have stepped forward, but we cannot discount the idea that this message was sent to other games under the Adult Swim label. Popular games like Robot Unicorn Attack, Frog Fractions 2, and Jazzpunk all come out with Adult Swim Games as publisher.
