What sites host open source fonts or typefaces, other than Google Fonts?

A family member put on a game show that included Brian Blessed and I commented it 'must be old as he's been dead for a while'?

Nope. 88 and going strong.

Who else has surprised you?

I got a little single-serving crock pot on Black Friday, so I'm curious what your favorite things to make in one are.

Does anyone have any experience with this? It would save me a lot of money but I also don't want to flush it down the toilet.

I mean music videos that have nothing to do with the music and mostly just do their own thing and tell their own story.

An example --

Basement Jaxx's Red Alert seems to be about a meteor-worshiping cult awaiting the arrival of their rocky messiah in some unsuspecting greasy spoon cafe in the middle of nowhere.

Once the meteor crashes into Earth, everyone gets horribly mutated and convulses to the strange rays exhibited by the meteor. The infection seems to be localized entirely within the cafe. The End.

Edit: Please link to a video, or at least summarize the plot.

Edit2: Please actually link to a video, or tell me why the video plot is cool. Come on, it's just 30 seconds of your time.

Basically title. I'm a digital artist in the USA and not rich by any stretch. In fact, somewhat in debt. (Aren't we all.)

I also try really hard to not be a mindless consumer. I use old equipment as long as I can, repair, refurbish, etc...

All this talk of upcoming tariffs has me worried that, rather than being able to get a day-job at newly opened US manufacturing for electronics or something, I'll instead be paying +60% more on like everything.

I know tech is a depreciating asset, but should I try to upgrade now to hold out for the next ~5 years or so?

I was considering hunting down a motherboard/cpu/RAM combo for instance.

Are worries about tariffs overblown? Trying to figure out how to prepare as best I can with my meager resources before everything just...keeps getting worse.

I am getting paid for my digital art, it's not living money though. My spouse has a more stable income that enables me to keep trying.

Thanks in advance. <3

EDIT: Thanks a ton for all the helpful replies! I'm glad I'm not being overly paranoid.

Some of you have asked for system specs so here they are for the curious:

System Specs:

  • OS: OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
  • Mobo: Z590 Aorus Elite AX
  • CPU: i7-10700k @ 5.1 Ghz
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 3090
  • Mem: 32GB DDR4 (forget the speed...3000?)

I want to be clear: I don't mean to sound too panicked and I'm more than happy to be content with what I have and see my blessings for what they are.

However, as I'm trying to break into being a 3D Blender artist and gamedev professionally, I'm trying to strategize whether standards will significantly increase and leave me behind in the next 5 years or so. (Game industry, not trying to do Hollywood VFX models on my home rig or anything lol)

I don't game so much these days unfortunately. And if I do, like 5% of my library is particularly demanding. ๐Ÿ˜‚

No using search engines or calculator, just imagine you were given these choices in jail and got 30 seconds to choose.

Would you rather have the executioner (Please excuse my use of firearm terminology, I'm not an expert in guns):

[A] Load 1 chamber of 6 and spin before pull the trigger 6 times (spinning the chamber after each pull)

or

[B] Load 2 chamber of 6 and spin before pull the trigger 3 times (spinning the chamber after each pull)

or

[C] Load 4 chamber of 6 and spin before pull the trigger once

If you survive, you are pardoned of all crimes you've committed in the past and get to leave prison (alive, obviously), no compensation tho. (Attempts to end your own life is illegal)

Which of these options would you pick?

No search engine, no calculator pls. I'm bored and wanna make this fun. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you are confused, ask in comments.

Edit: Reworded it to clarify that the chamber is spinned before the first trigger is pulled.

Slovakia, 300GB for 13 EUR/month, no texts and calls included. Those are 5 cents I think.
The carrier has an agreement with another one for coverage extension, but with official FUP of 20GB in that network.
This carrier however disregards that and instead allows up to 80GB, but for a few months after enabling 4G from that other carrier the FUP wasn't applied at all.

But it's not all sunshine and rainbows.

It operates on that other network like MVNO, and if your phone decides to stick there, which people report happens a lot, say hello to far lower FUP instead. The carrier's own network is also generally far slower.
I also found a little network issue (tested with 2 phones) where receiving calls are broken in a fairly specific scenario, but I don't know how to report that. To keep it short, if VoLTE isn't available, when switching from 2 of the 4G bands to one of the 2G bands, the call fails to connect after several long seconds of silence on caller end, and no notification of failed call attempt is sent.

I can work around both issues by selecting specific bands as needed manually, but that generally requires root and use of app like Network Signal Guru (inconvenient).
This allows me to decide whether I want more data amount, faster network speed, better outgoing call coverage, or higher chance of receiving a call. Yeah... their network sucks.

I also believe they break the EU roam like at home regulation:

Most plans only have half the data amount it seems they should have, but maybe I just calculated that wrong.
But this plan I have has... ZERO data for EU roaming.

2 x (price of mobile bundle excluding VAT / regulated maximum wholesale cap per GB) = data limit (in GB) when roaming

Hmmm... how does that give a zero.

He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that. His reasons may be good, and no one may have been able to refute them. But if he is equally unable to refute the reasons on the opposite side, if he does not so much as know what they are, he has no ground for preferring either opinion... Nor is it enough that he should hear the opinions of adversaries from his own teachers, presented as they state them, and accompanied by what they offer as refutations. He must be able to hear them from persons who actually believe them...he must know them in their most plausible and persuasive form.

Years ago I read a reddit thread saying you shouldn't pursue friendships or relationships at your workplace. Then I again see all over the places over the internet that friendships don't happen a lot after you become working adult and that they're struggling make new friends. My question is If you don't purse friendships, how would those happen?

Want to know about the thoughts of people over here.

Of course I'm not asking you to give away your passwords. But for those of you who have so many, how do you keep track of them all? Do you use any unique methods?

I know many people struggle between having something that's easy to remember and something that's easy to guess. If you keep a note with your passwords on it, for example, it can be stolen, lost, or destroyed, or if you make them according to a pattern that's easy to remember, the wrong people might find them easier to guess.

It's time for me to move from SMS to a 2FA Authenticator app. I want something that will be open source but also ridiculously easy to back up, transfer to a new device, or replace if it is on a device that fails. I want it to be versatile enough to use across all necessary authentications. I also want to be sure that I can use the same app for many many years. I don't want it tied into another service.

What's my best option?

I am about to take delivery of a new monitor, a Dell Ultrasharp U2724D, and I have a question about the audio....

I know this sounds confusing, but hear me out...

I built my computer a few years ago, sadly the audio broke a few days later, I first the rear output stopped working, then I used the front output and a few days later the cable I used caught my chairs armrest and my computer fell on it's side, during this the headphone jack broke.

I currently use the headphone out on my Philips monitor and run it to a generic noname analog amplifier to my Roth Audio OLi RA-1 speakers, this works fine, but there is an issue with the new monitor.

It does not have a headphone out, but a line out.

Would you expect a generic amp to work with that?

I bout the amp seven/eight years ago at the Swedish chain store Kjell & Company, it is labelled "Roxcore A32" and has two RCA inputs at the back.

I have no idea about this.

I'm currently using firefox and thinking of switching, would love some more features and a better aesthetic, but I'm interested in what others are using!

Aside from the obvious Law is there another blocker for this kind of situation?

I Imagine people would have their AI representatives trained to each individual personal beliefs and their ideal society.

What could that society look like? Or how could it work. Is there a term for this?

There is an individual I know who has probably pissed off entire communities with a lot of ambiguously moral situations. People don't keep it a secret they don't like her, and occasionally someone who notices her object to how they treat her will quip "if so many people wreak of being shit to you, maybe you should check your own shoes".

Once in a while though, I noticed she would respond to that statement with "if it were my own shoes, it's also the shoes of the local authorities, as they have no problem with me, only those of you they're stepping on do". Oddly enough, this is completely true. I see situations like this where it's the masses VS people in positions of wisdom (with situations like this making you wonder if the people in positions of wisdom are enough to outweigh the masses) and I am intrigued because it makes you ask why both exist, and it makes me wonder if people who spend so long not putting salience into a systemic process of conflict mediation have trouble navigating how to deal with it.

I would wonder if they reflect, and reflect, and reflect, until some trivial detail triggers a eureka moment, for example two people might be fighting bitterly with each other and it might be difficult to put one as more moral than the other, until you realize one of them had been previously banned from the place they're fighting in.

The last time you had to assess who was the asshole in a certain situation, what was that tipping point, that last straw, the tiebreaker that made you realize there was a slightly larger moral weight on one side than the other?

I saw this article, which made me think about it...

Kids under 16 to be banned from social media after Senate passes world-first laws

Seeing what kind of brainrot kids are watching, makes me think it's a good idea. I wouldn't say all content is bad, but most kids will get hooked on trash content that is intentionally designed to grab their attention.

What would be an effective way to enforce a restriction with the fewest possible side effects? And who should be the one enforcing that restriction in your opinion?
